Doris E. (Kruger) Perkins

October 22, 1920 - April 17, 2014

Doris Kruger Perkins was born October 22, 1920, in Salem, Oregon to Edward Clark and Esther Woods Kruger. She lived in Salem her entire life. The youngest daughter of seven, she was predeceased by her parents and sisters Echo Brock, Helen Ethell, Mary Randall, Opal Zell, Violet Moore and Hazel Janke. Doris was of pioneer ancestry with her Great Grandmother Emily Luse Vandevort and her Great-Great Grandfather Henry Heaton Luse arriving in Oregon by wagon train, in 1853.

Doris attended Englewood, Yew Park and Garfield elementary schools; Parrish Jr. High, and graduated with the Class of 1938, from Salem High. She enjoyed many years of class luncheons with her school friends in the past few decades.

She married Wilford Perkins on June 7, 1946, who preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by their three children Karen Perkins Worley (Steve), Salem; Bruce Perkins (Claudia), Beaverton; and J. Roger Perkins, Sr. (Toni), Dallas. She was grandmother to James R. Perkins, Jr. (Heather) Portland; Tyler Perkins (Christina), California; Steven Worley (Anna), North Carolina; Ryan Perkins (Selene), Beaverton; Erin Michele Perkins, California; Rachel DeLauder (Jason) and Emily Royce (Aaron), both of Washington. She also leaves 10 great grandchildren.

Her first jobs were in various departments for the State of Oregon. She worked a few Christmas seasons for Miller's Department Store and Meier and Franks. She also worked a few years at KSLM radio station and seasonally at the Marion County Tax Division.

She was an avid fan of the Oregon State Beavers and Portland Trail Blazers. She enjoyed crafting in her spare time. Before her eyesight failed her, she enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and playing games. She loved to win.

She was a life-long member of Court St. Christian Church. Her family started attending within the first year she was born. Through those 94 years, 6 generations have been an active part of the church. As a young person, she was a part of Oregon Christian Endeavor. where she made many life- long friends. She worked in the children's departments at Court Street for about 50 years.

Her family would like to thank the caring people at Lancaster Village Assisted Living, for the loving care of her these last 6 months, the Willamette Valley Hospice, and Dr. Loring Winthrop, who has served as her doctor for close to 40 years.

There will be a viewing for Doris on Thursday April 24th from 1-4pm and viewing on Friday April 25th from 12-2pm. A Funeral service will be following Friday's viewing at 2pm. All services will be taking place at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Directors

I have so many wonderful memories of Aunt Doris, most of them pretty funny, she was such a caring person with a very quick wit, she was my first baby sitter and I always felt very loved and safe with her, I loved being a part of her family, she will be missed by all who knew her, RIP

As just a little guy, Aunt Doris babysat me. I loved the milk & graham crackers but best of all she was such a caring and loving person. The fond memories stayed with me all these years. My sincere condolences to all the family.
