Alvin Tight Obituary

Tight, Dr. Alvin J. (Bud), 70, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2011, and is survived by his loving wife, Judy Campbell of nearly 49 years. Born in Sandusky, OH, to Dr. and Mrs. Alvin Tight, Bud moved to Florida at the age of 11. He was the second of six children: Carol, Mike (Barb), Tom (Barbara), Steve (Sharon), and John (Mary). A graduate of St. Anthony's Catholic School, Central Catholic High School, the University of Dayton, and St. Louis University where he received his DDS and MS in Orthodontics. He was a president of St. Louis University Orthodontic Education & Research Foundation and was a dedicated Orthodontist for 43 years, giving the most wonderful gift of all-BEAUTIFUL SMILES. Dr. Tight loved his patients who he considered an extension of his family, and he enjoyed following all of their achievements. Bud is also survived by his heartbroken children, John (Kathy), Debbie (Kelly) Crittenberger, Brian (Helena) and Stephanie (Andrew) Maddock. He was the proud grandfather of sixteen: Tierney, Buddy, Jimmy, Nora, Claire, and Tommy Tight; Jennifer, Jack, Katie, Townsend, Mackenzie, and Ty Crittenberger; Michael and Sarah Tight; and Jimmy and Ellie Maddock. Bud cherished his faith and family and never passed up an opportunity to say, "I love you." He was especially kind, gentle and generous and enriched the lives of all he touched. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5th, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 N. Federal Hwy., Ft. Lauderdale. www.kraeerfairchild.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4595 Bayview Dr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on Monday, June 6th, at 10 a.m. For "Pa", his 16 grandchildren were God's gift for a life well lived. He would never miss an event. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cardinal Gibbons Athletic Dept., 2900 NE 47th St., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308.

I am so very sad that I will not be able to bring my own children to this wonderful, warm and trusted man who worked wonders on our own smiles years ago. He is the first person I thought of when looking for someone to trust with my own children.

Just found about this today from my dentist. Dr T was my orthodontist from about 1981-1987 (yes, I wore my braces for a LONG time). Always remember him to be kind and a gentlemen. Wonderful office staff during my time there.

Dear Mrs. Judy Tight and family,
I'm deeply saddened for you all. I heard from Dr. Bassett this morning. I was one of Dr. Tight's patients back in the late 80's. My mom, Nancy Brown often says to me, wow Kristie! Dr. Tight really did an amazing job on your smile. She is extremely pleased as am I.  I often enjoyed seeing you all at the Cardinal Gibbons football games. I will miss seeing him as so many will.  He was such a special good man and will be missed by so many. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.
My sincere sympathy,

Dear Tight Family,

Last Wednesday was a sad day for me and for many of us who call Coral Ridge home. Dr. Tight was one of the nicest parents I knew growing up, and he never failed to say hello or ask how I was, as the years went by.

I remember the many seasons playing baseball at "The Park", and being glad to know that John and I were on the same team, because you could always count on Dr. and Mrs. Tight attending, with Debbie, Stephanie and Brian. He was a fixture at Coral Ridge Little League games and his passing has also taken away a part of my childhood. He was one of a kind.

I know this has been a difficult week, and will continue to be for some time to come, but I'm sure you will take solace in knowing that your husband and dad is in a much more peaceful place. He is surrounded by the many friends and family members who left before him and is smiling down at the awesome family he helped raise.

Dr. Tight will be sorely missed, but his legacy will continue to burn bright within his family, friends and the community he helped build.

Sincerely,

John

Dear Judy and family:
I am profoundly sorry for your loss. Bud will always be a part of my life and he is missed by me tremendously. Quick with a laugh and generous to a fault, he was a joy to be with; with his presence, I always knew any dull conversation would soon be filled with merriment.
As I attend Mass, I will always have a special prayer for my confirmation sponsor.
Thank you Bud.

Is the church going to be large enough to hold all the people who respect and have respected the tight family. Bud was and Judy is the best of all that Ft. Lauderdale ever had to offer and the loss of Bud will take a very long time to cope with.

My family knew that either syb, bud or Judy would be there when one of our family left this world to be greated in the next - and now my prayer is that you will let your family and friends help you in anyway that works for you.

Bud was indeed one of the best human beings and my prayers are with you Judy and family......
