Anthony Benvenuto Obituary

Benvenuto, Anthony John "Tony", 59, passed away Wednesday, October 10 at 10:30 a.m. at his home in Pompano Beach, FL. Tony was born in 1953 in Rochester, NY and moved here in 1959 from Rochester NY. Tony grew up in Pompano Beach from the age of 6 years old, and graduated from Pompano Beach H.S. in 1971. As a teenager, he played in two local bands, The Chain Gang and Wicked Incorporated, participating in the Battle of the Bands contests, and even performing in the Bahamas at the Emerald Beach Hotel in the 1960's. His love of music lasted until the end of his life, with frequent jam sessions under his backyard "tiki hut" on the weekends with a large circle of friends, which he hosted with his wife Sue. Tony was an active member of the Pompano Beach Lions Club, and participated in Pompano's annual Fishing Rodeo's, as well as on local pool teams. He was an avid fisherman from the time he was a child, and enjoyed being out on his boat the "Sea U Later." Lobstering in the Keys as well as yearly house boating adventures with his buddies; his life was filled with music, boating, fishing, and his Miami Dolphins. To his nieces and nephews, he was their beloved "Uncle Nin" who taught them all how to fish and make music at the holidays. Tony was known as the "go to guy" when anyone needed anything, and he was always ready to help and make you laugh. He had a great sense of humor right up to the end, which cancer was not able to take from him. He is now on the rest of his universal journey, finally reunited with his beautiful daughter Sarah, the light of his life. He will be missed forever by everyone who knew and loved him: son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. Tony was the owner of Benvenuto, Incorporated, a lawn, sprinkler and general home maintenance company, serving the Pompano Beach and Ft. Lauderdale areas. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter Sarah Benvenuto. Tony will be greatly missed by his mother and father: Mr. & Mrs. Anthony G. Benvenuto (Owner of Landscaping by Benvenuto for over 40 years); wife of 29 years, Sue Mack Benvenuto; sisters: Susan McDonough Stackpoole (Ken), Mary Jo Mermer (Michael); nieces, Megan McDonough Bell (Steve), Erin McDonough Schiller (Erik), Karli Jo Teague; great-nephews, Dylan, Ayden, Oliver, Domenic; and numerous family members in the Rochester, NY area. A Memorial Celebration of Tony's life will be held on October 26, 2012 at 11 am at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 200 W. Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064. www.forestlawnnorth.com.

Dear Aunt Lucy, Uncle Tony, Sue and MaryJo:
My heart is just broken for all of you. I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Anthony. I have not seen him since I was a little girl, but it never changes family is family. And we lost a very young man to an awful disease. Cancer hurts the whole family unit and robs you of your life!
Please know you are all in my prayers daily. Including his wife. Atleast now I see him in heaven holding his Sarah close to his heart.
God Bless you all. Love you,
Fran & Steve Van Dekken
Your loving family from Rochester.

Our condolences to Sue, Tony's wife, Uncle Tony and Aunt Lu, Sue and Mary Jo, and extended family. We have fond memories of Tony and his friend Gary spending time in Cape Vincent in the early '70s. We may have even gone fishing together a time or two. He's left his family here to be with loving family gone before who, I am sure, greeted him with hugs and kisses all around.

Love and Peace,
Jim and Jean Benvenuto

"Dear Nin,
I was very sad that day, over 50 years ago when you and your family left for Florida. After all, my closest cousin, my friend, and "almost" next door neighbor was moving a "world" away. All we wanted to do was go to "Red Falls" and and catch fish, frogs and turtles in the river all day. But I soon came to realize that you would return every year for two weeks and we could continue our adventures at least once a year. Remember bringing snapping turtles home in a galvanized wash basin? Somehow, they always escaped overnight to return to the river. It was a childhood right out of "Huckleberry Finn". Eventually, we had to grow up, but I don't think we ever did "entirely". You never lost your appetite for adventure and love of life.

Now you've left for another journey that will be better than the last and I'm sure you will do it with the same appetite for adventure and zest for life. Know that I will miss you, as before, but look forward to the next "two week" get together that will be just as good as the ones when we were kids.
Godspeed,
Cousin Lou

Dear Aunt Lucy, Uncle Tony, Nin's wife Sue, Cousins Sue, and MaryJo,
We were so saddened to hear about the loss of Nin. Although we haven't seen him in a very long time, we know how close he was to all of you and how you will miss him. Hold on to the many memories as they cannot be replaced. He is now in the hands of the Lord and he has his beloved daughter in his arms. Remember that angels hover close to those whose hearts are breaking. You are all in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers at this difficult time.
With sincere sympathy,
Cousins, Anna & Dick Dattalo
