Gloria Guth Obituary

Gloria Guth, 78 of Coconut Creek passed away Sunday October 6th. Born in New Limerick Maine to Robert and Gertrude Lake, Gloria was predeceased by her husband Hans Guth Sr., she is survived by her son Hans Guth Jr., her daughter-in-law Dania Guth and her three grandchildren, Karsten, Erika and Matheus. She is also survived by her sisters, Roberta Bray, Louis Ann Estabrook and Sally Fitzpatrick and her brother Guy Lake. Gloria was always a fiercely independent woman. She entered the Air Force in 1952 and served during the Korean War. She later moved with a friend from the Air Force to Cocoa Beach Florida. It is here that she met the young strapping German with the movie star good looks - Hans Guth Sr. Soon they welcomed the younger Hans Jr. onto the scene. A decision she maintained to the end she didn't regret. They later relocated to Margate Florida where Gloria took a position with Broward Community College as secretary to the President for Broward Community College's North campus. It is here she stayed - effectively running the campus (let's be clear who did the real work here) for over twenty years. After retirement she was able to spend some quality years travelling and enjoying life together with her husband until his sudden passing in 1999. Despite this, Gloria was able to continue living a very full life filled with friends, travel and even an occasional boyfriend though none lasted long as they couldn't live up to the high standards she had set. She will be missed by many and loved forever.

Gloria and I were good friends, having met at Broward College and continuing our friendship after retirement with lunches, movies and of course the Broward College Retirees luncheon of which she was a significant part. Gloria always saved me a seat at the retirees luncheon so we could sit together and chat. I miss her so much, and send my heartfelt condolences to Hans, Jr. and family, and to her siblings.

Dear Hans Jr,
Im sorry to hear your mom has passed away. I hope you and your family will be comforted by your memories of all the good times you shared and what a good mother she was.

I worked at BCC with Gloria and we were friends for many years. We both lost our husbands within a year of each other. Spoke to her recently and she was very excited about going to France on a riverboat. The news of her passing was indeed a shock. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
