I had a couple occasions to meet Layton in Fort Smith, as he lived next door to my cousin Joanne Lewison and her husband, Don Lewison. My cousin said that Layton and his wife were the very best of neighbors.
Layton must have been in his late 70's when I ventured to his house, where outside he was working very hard with his axe chopping up firewood. His strength and energy were very apparent even at his advancing age. He was a very nice man. I wish our paths would have crossed in Chillicothe, as I did not know him then. Quite coincidental that these Chillicotheans moved next door to my cousins, and became very good friends. My sincere sympathies to Larry and Kristy.
Sincerely,
Jim Alford

I know Heaven is rejoicing because it gained a wonderful man! Layton truly never met a stranger and was the kindest, most generous and loving man. He had a servant heart and Jesus shined through him! He was like a granddad to me! He and Mary were the sweetest and definitely made the world and everyone they were around better!
