Leon Hightower Obituary
Tallahassee - Leon Hightower, 73, of Tallahassee answered the Master's Call while at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Phillip AME Church, Monticello, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 3-7 p.m. Saturday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE 850-942-1950. A native of Jefferson County, Mr. Hightower was a dedicated member of St. Phillip AME where he served as Steward, Trustee, Male Chorus President, Sons of Allen member and Church Cemeterian; he also volunteered in several other ministries. He was a retired Warehouse Supervisor for the City of Tallahassee. His love and legacy will be cherished forever by his sisters, Dorothy Plummer, Ethel Mae Graham, Mary (Arthur) Ingram, Lenora (Henry) Wiggins, Bernice Hightower and Betty Gilley; brother, John (Ada) Hightower, Jr.; son, Anthony Brooks; granddaughters, Ricoya (Marlon) Fogle, Brittany Brooks and Tiffany Hightower; daughter-in-law, Betina Hightower; special friend, Rev. Dr. Joyce Fryson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.

MY FATHER- IN- LAW (LEON HIGHTOWER) AND HIS SON (LEMOND HIGHTOWER/LEON IN WHICH HE WAS CALLED BY) WAS MY HUSBAND WAS 2 OF THE MOST LOVING MEN I EVER MET ALWAYS MADE SURE FAMILY WAS TAKEN CARE OF. I STILL TO THIS DAY CRY FINDING MYSELF MISSING THEM. BOTH WAS TRULY HEAVEN SENT MEN THAT I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH N MY HEART. OOOOOHHH LAWDDDD I KNOW THEY SAY WE'RE NOT SUPPOSE TO QUESTION BUT I FIND MYSELF ASKING WHY LAWDDDD. BUT I KNOW U ALWAYS KNOW BEST, NOTHING'S DONE BY MISTAKE. Leon was a son to me in every way. We will always share the beautiful memories of him transporting me to church for years and always being there when I lived in Tallahassee.

Mr. Hightower was a kind, unselfish and giving man. He loved the Lord and was not ashamed to show it! He lived the life of a Christian and his kindness will be forever etched in my memory. I was privileged to work with Leon for many years and I was there when Eddie Fultz hired Leon away from Mcgowin Elec. On behalf of Eddie and myself we never worked with a more honorable man.

Brother Hightower was a man of faith and great conviction. He had a gentle, encouraging spirit. He welcomed me as a young, inexperienced pastor. I was strengthened by his wisdom and comforted by his smile. I can hear him singing and praying. He now joins his voice with those who sing unending hymns of praise to our just and holy God. Rest in divine light, Brother Hightower.

Uncle Leon was a "gift" given to the Hightower Family from God.
Uncle Leon was the glue used to bind the "Hightower" family during the good and troublesome times.
Uncle Leon was an unselfish man and he truly dedicated his life to his family.
Uncle Leon was encouraging, a role model to his family and friends. Most importantly, he served as a pillow in the St. Phillip Community.
Uncle Leon was certainly a loving uncle, and I will cherish my fondest memories of him for a lifetime.
As a family, let us embrace his love and try to mirror his good deeds.
And the words of Uncle Leon: "Darling", I've had some good days and some hills to climb. God has called him home, where there will be no more pain and eternal joy in heaven.
