I left fl early 2008. I have been back for cupple of years now but I was watching TB10 bc I'm in npr for the week. I made a joke about dick fletcher weather and no one knew what I was talking about. So I looked him up shocked to see he was gone. No one can make weather exciting news like Dick. I miss hearing him on 98 rock giving news and weather together. TB10 just isn't the same without him

Dear Dick. I always enjoyed playing tennis with you on Sunday evenings, as you were one of the true greats. I think of you every time I set foot on the courts at North Shore along the beautiful St. Petersburg Waterfront. Your memory lives in my forehand and net game, as I try to keep my eye on the ball through impact...

Dear Fletcher Family,
My husband and I just learned of Dick's passing over. He was our favorite weather man of all time. The only one who gave attention to the marine conditions in the Tampa area which was so important to the commercial fisherman. He will be sorely missed.
Our prayers are with you as you go thru the grieving process.

When my husband and I were planning our sunset wedding we called the news station to ask if anyone could help us figure out what time the sunset would be on our day. To our surprise, Dick Fletcher came on the phone. He answered my question and then expressed best wishes to us on our wedding. We recently celebrated our 20th anniversary and remember this story often. He will be greatly missed by the Tampa Bay area. Our condolences to his family.

Our family sends our deepest sympathy to all of you. We were all shocked by Fletch's passing. My 84 year old grandmother was very upset when she turned on the TV and heard the news. She said that she has watched him for years and will miss him dearly. I lost my mother back in 2005 and I miss her everyday, but I know she is always with me and I will see her again one day so I know that Fletch is with all of you and is counting the days until you all are back together.

Fletch,

I am numb and saddened to know that you are no longer with us. When I first heard that you had passed away I wish it had just been a dream, but it wasn't it was reality. When I heard that you had passed away all I could do is cry. I watched your weather forecasts everyday for the past 11 years since I moved down here in 97. I enjoyed getting emails from you if I ever had a question about the weather I would email you and you would email me back usually within the hour. When hurricane season came around I watched you from the beginning to the end and you were always there never would leave the station because you wanted to make sure that the viewers had the information that they needed to know. Hurricane season 2004 you were on the tv non stop as we had back to back storms you were there to get us through everything and you reassured the Bay area that everything was ok. I know you will look over the Bay area and keep us safe while you are in heaven you will be looking down on us. Tampa Bay's 10 has lost a friend and a legend but will never be forgotten. You have touched so many lives here in the Bay area. You will be sorely missed. I will continue to watch Tampa Bay's 10 news as I do now and I will keep thinking that you are on the air. My heart goes out to Dick Fletcher's family and to the Tampa Bay's 10 family. Dick was a great man and cared about everyone around him. R.I.P. Dick you will be missed!!

As one of Dick Fletcher's weather watchers since the summer of 1999, I'll always remember Dick for his friendly personality, for his knowledge of the weather and for his willingness to share his knowledge with others. He was a TV weather personality unlike all the others. And there will never be another like him. He was one of those special individuals who won't soon be forgotten. Sail on, Dick Fletcher.

Dick Fletcher was amazing! I am sixteen years old and I've watched him on the news since I was a baby. I will never forget how his weather forcasts always put me to sleep as a child! I think it was the bright colors and the calm and collective tone in his voice. As I got older, watching him made me become very interested in the weather and soon I wanted to be a weatherman myself! He was one of my heroes and I will miss him!

Dick Fletcher was the ultimate professional yet, to viewers, seemed like an 'ol friend. Unusual, but appreciated in today's fast paced world. I never got to meet Fletch in person but felt I knew him from watching his weather forcasts. The day he died a friend called me and told me and after that I cried all day. I loved his humor and wit. Alot of people tried to stump him with a question but he always had the answer. I hopefully will be able to go to the gathering at the church in St.Pete on Saturday. His family and people he worked with are in my prayers. He touched so many heats he will truly be missed.

In Memory of Dick Fletcher

A million times we'll think of you
A million tears we'll cry
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still,
In our hearts you hold a place
No one could ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
Part of us went with you
The day God took you home.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

The sadness I feel over the loss of Fletch is huge! For 23 years he has been my weather man, no one can or will take his place for so many reasons. What a keep sake of great memories and knowledge he has left us all with. I am very sorry that he passed away, it was way too soon.
I prayed hard for him and his family. I knew after the 3rd day things were not going well. I want you, Fletcher's family, Cindy and his children and grand kids to know that he was loved by all of us and we are with you in your time of sorrow and hurt and will continue to pray for you. I would also like to say to his Channel 10 family (ALL of you) that the pain you are feeling, your not alone, we hurt too. You all would make him so proud.
You see he touched so many lives and not just there in Tampa, but down here in Sarasota too. God bless ALL of you, "may you find peace and strength in knowing that you were all touched by a very special and rare Angel." One I will NEVER EVER FORGET. Soar High Fletch! We love and Miss You!

I moved from California to Sarasota,FL. in 2000. I must say the subject of Hurricanes was all new to me. I started watching 10 Weather and listening to the many suggestions that he talked about pertaining to Hurricane awareness.

Thanks to Dick Fletcher, passing on his knowledge of how to prepare your family home I probably have the most Hurricane Ready Home on my Block, from Home protection to Hurricane Kits to a family Evacuation Plan.

IM going to miss Dick Fletcher a great deal. I thank him for the Valuable Knowledge that he passed on to me over the past years.

My heartfelt Condolences go out to his family.

We are going to miss him.

I was so saddened to hear about Dick. He was my dependable weather guy. I will never forget Hurricane Elena '85. I stayed glued to Channel 10 til the wee hours of the morning. He was my comfort during all the winds and rage of Elena. I remember him looking so tire, yet determined to keep us all informed. At around 3-4 am, he said "folks, there is 10 inches of rain in the parking lot, I've gotta leave now". I felt scared for the first time that night. Who was gonna get me through the storm until daylight? He was truly an amazing man, so knowledgeable and most of all dedicated. HE LOVED WHAT HE DID!!
You are missed Dick Fletcher. My thoughts go out to your family. I lived in Spring Hill for 25 yrs, and now live in Las Vegas, I still check out Channel 10 news on the internet daily. I want to let you know, you were appreciated. God bless you, and may you rest in peace.

He just visited my sons cub scout meeting in Jan. so my children also had the opportunity to meet with him and learn about weather from a man that cleary enjoyed his job. He is going to be sorely missed. He came into many homes for many years and for that we are grateful. May all the photos, newscasts, and personal memories be of comfort at this time. I know he touched my child's life with his amazing predictions. She would look for his forecast to dress herself for the next school day. His memory will live in our hearts forever. As she says he is now in heaven with her Memaw and her cat Ziggy. God Bless the family.

I just got finished viewing the Channel 10 website and posted a comment there, but wanted to post one here, also. Mike Deeson really hit the nail on the head with his tribute to Dick Fletcher, as did Ken Broo, via his audio tribute. I was the news intern at Channel 10 in the summer of 1983 and clearly remember all the folks he mentions from those days (John Wilson, Sheryl Browne, Doug Hoyte, Ken Broo, even Don Harrison, who preceded John at the anchor desk). After graduation from USF, I went on to work for Jay Gross, a former colleague of Mike's and Dick's, for 18 years. What I remember about Dick was that he was always so warm and friendly, while being passionate about his work and life. I remember him coming up to the news desk every afternoon and getting on the two-way and asking whatever camera crew was in a good spot to please bring him back a weather shot. That was in the good (?) ol' days of 3/4-inch tape! And some days, Dick would come into the station, still in his tennis clothes, and just have a big smile on his face as he passed through the news room. My husband, Tom, and I now live in North Carolina, but every time we get to Florida for a visit, we watch Channel 10 and Dick Fletcher. It won't be the same without him. A local forecaster here in the Hendersonville area, Paul Speranza, even mentioned Dick last night on his 5:30 radio broadcast - seems he knew Dick from hurricane conferences they'd attended. Paul gets down to Tampa often and wanted to be sure all the folks up here who also have ties to Tampa Bay knew about the passing of their friend. Dick touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Our sympathies to his family and the family at Channel 10. Carol Kaczmarek, Mills River, NC
