Charles Lowe Obituary

LOWE, Charles Frederick Niles October 22, 1935-May 1, 2008 Having lived a full life of joys and celebrations, we announce the passing of Charlie Lowe. He spent his last days surrounded by family, friends and his loving wife, Sharon. Our father was a friend of Bill W. with 33 years of sobriety. He was greatly loved and admired for his long time comment to recovery programs. Dad and his close friends created three AA groups in the bay area that still thrive today. His recovery retreats were well attended by people from all 12 step programs. An entrepreneur at heart, he founded several small businesses over his life time with real estate as his overriding passion. He loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Dad was always up for fun with friends and family. We, his children would like to thank him for his many gifts of time, his talent of instilling a spirit of well-being to those he knew, his generosity, as well as his great love of mankind. Survivors include Sharon, his wife of 19 years; children, Christine (Jerry) Bray, Chip (Cindy) Lowe, Betsy (Andy) Ponte, and John (Astrid) Lowe; nieces, Michelle (Tom) Kilkenny and Leslie (Mike) Williams; 14 grandchildren; 2 great nieces; and 2 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Charlotte Tupko; brother-in-law Dick (Bobbie) Burns; former wife Anne Lowe; siblings, John (Carol) Roberts, David Roberts, and Kathy (Gary) Frank. Memorial services celebrating Charlie's Life will be at the "Beach Retreat" June 7th (wear Zip-a-dee-do-dah Yellow). For further information, call 941-758-8453. Dear Charlie,
Words can not express the love and gratitude I feel for you. I will never forget your smiling face, warm spirit and kindness. Meeting you the 1st time at Day Springs in 1996, was one of my best days of my life. I am so glad we had retreats to share, meetings, sound journeys and lots of talks. You will remain in my heart always..... I miss you Charlie

Our Charlie at a Retreat

Dear Charlie,

You were the single most important person in my recovery.
The friendship and Sposorship are forever.
Your willingness to give of yourself, to listen, to care, to teach,
all were key to my scary first years.

You taught me the meaning of love and spirituality in sobriety.
Your gentle guidance into prayer and medition grew for me into the
same love of the Spiritual Retreat that lived within you.
Your kindhearted benevolence touched so many, many lives.

I have been greatly gifted by the Spirit of the Universe for knowing you, and know that you will live in that Spirit and in my Spirit forever.

Out fishin' on Jimmy's boat.

Charlie,

You were a loving, good and generous friend. We shared so much; spirituality, meetings, retreats, fishing trips and business. You were always there for anyone who needed you.

I've missed you these past months and now will miss you even more. But you will always be with me in Spirit.

Thank you, Charlie, for being my friend.

Charlie was someone who I thought would never die. I can't imagine the world without Charlie. His generosity and love of life was very special. And as a former employee, I can say his enthusiasm was contagious as well as aggravating at times! The world has lost a special soul. My sympathies to his family and friends.
