Nolan Broussard Obituary

Nolan J. "Bruce" Broussard, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Delhomme Funeral Home chapel of the Flowers at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 14, 2014 for Nolan J. "Bruce" Broussard, Jr., 62, who passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his home.

Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lafayette.

"Bruce" a resident of Lafayette, LA was the son of Nolan J. Broussard, Sr. and the late Verline Trahan Broussard.

Bruce, otherwise known as "The Bruce" or "Scooter Bruce" was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and part owner of Bruce's Auto Sales for over 40 years. He attended Lafayette High School, graduated in business from the University Of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was also a member and past president of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association (LADA). A longtime member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and CCA, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a true LSU and ULL fan, loved Mardi Gras and was an active member in several Krewes. He loved horse racing and had a great enthusiasm for all makes and models of cars. Most of all he loved being with his friends and family. He never knew a stranger and shared a kindness with all. His strong will and determination was an inspiration to all that knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Cherie Broussard; his father, Nolan J. Broussard, Sr.; his daughter, Amy Broussard of Houston, TX; stepson, Britt Schoeffler and his wife Taryn; stepdaughter, Amanda McMath and husband Mickal; his sisters, Sondra Broussard Decou and husband Glenn, Monique Broussard Taylor and husband Terry; his brother, Kevin Broussard and wife Kim' his father-in-law, Harmon Roy, his mother-in-law, Gerry Roy; his sister-in-law, Linda Roy Hunter; his brother-in-law, Bryan Roy and his wife Caroline; his four step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verline Trahan Broussard, his son, Brent Broussard and his brother, Mike Broussard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive, on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 6:30 pm in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Broussard, Glenn Decou, Terry Taylor, Britt Schoeffler, Bryan Roy and Mickal McMath. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Decou, Jacob McDonald, and all his close friends who knew him as "The Bruce".

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gene Brierre, Eric Buller and the entire staff of Louisiana Oncology Associates for their compassion over the past year and a half. Thanks to all of the physicians, nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their kindhearted care.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

I didn't know Mr. Broussard personally, but it sounds like he led a fulfilling life. Please find comfort in James 4:8, which says "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you."
