Dalton Lopez

Lafayette - Dalton Lopez, born on December 28, 1930, passed at his home in Lafayette surrounded by loved ones on August 23, 2018.

A native of New Iberia, Dalton is survived by two daughters, Leslie A. Lopez and Lisa L. Russell; one son, Marcus J. Lopez; and granddaughter, Dr. Katie C. Russell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris "Dot" Duchamp Lopez; and his parents, Octave Lopez and Inez Latiolais Veazey.

After graduating from St. Martinville High School, Dalton joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country, as an Anti-Tank/Assault Squad Leader during the Korean War, participating in the Inchon Landing, the Recapture of Seoul, and the Frozen Chosin Campaigns. Upon returning to the States, he served as a Drill Instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island. Dalton graduated "with distinction" from The Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Liberal and Technical Learning (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in May 1956, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Early in his career he worked for Schlumberger Well Services, and later retired as a District Manager from Baker Hughes Perforating Systems.

Dalton was a horticulture enthusiast and, after his retirement, raised and sold daylilies as a hobby. He was a member of the Delta Daylily Society, enjoyed LSU sports, socializing at the casino, and his dog, Ginger. Dalton was devoted to the love and care of his family and enjoyed the company of his friends and neighbors. His generosity and sense of humor will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of Acadiana for the kind-hearted care given to Dalton during the last week of his life, especially Dr. Gregory Riggs, JoAnne Harrington, RN; Taylor DeGroat, MSW; LaToya Sampy, CNA; Marcie Walker, CNA; Deacon Davis, Father Brady and Dr. Britni Hebert.

Graveside services with Honor Guard will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery, St. Martinville, on September 1, 2018, at 11AM with Chaplain David Rousse officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston, Ste 200, Lafayette, LA 70506.
