LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Paul Russell Olivier, 84, who passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. The Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, and Father Mitchell Guidry, pastor of Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Ville Platte,will con-celebrate the ceremony. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Theresa Richard Olivier; three daughters, Melanie Olivier and her husband Paul Pappas of Weaverville, NC, Carole Bares and her husband Wayne of Lafayette, and Angela Boudreaux and her husband Ken of Carencro; four sons, Paul Gerard Olivier and his wife Lorie of Charlotte, NC, Charles Olivier of Lafayette, Vance Olivier and his wife Simone of Broussard, and Terence Olivier and his fiancée Christina Harper of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Annie Bares, Nicholas Bares, Julia Poirier, Gabrielle Anne Olivier, Theresa Marie Boudreaux, Madeline Harper, and Hannah Harper; three sisters, Ersula Howard of Washington State, Catherine Hawkins and her husband David of Torrance, CA, and Cecelia Lavergne and her husband Raymond of Rayne; two brothers, Roy Olivier of Winnie, TX, and Mickey Olivier and his wife Kathy of Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Albert Olivier, Jr.; and three sisters, Annette Gallager, Josephine Duhon, and Marlene Matte.

Mr. Olivier served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the Louisiana State Police after 22 years of employment, and from Gulf South Printing Company, where he was a partner in the business. He was also a member of several civic and religious organizations.

Pallbearers will be Paul Gerard Olivier, Charles Olivier, Vance Olivier, Terence Olivier, Nicholas Bares, and Ramsey Olivier. Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Olivier, Mickey Olivier, Ken Boudreaux, Wayne Bares, and Paul Pappas.

Visitation hours will be observed on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home. A rosary will be said on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Kyle Faber. Visiting hours will resume on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Lester Ducote, and to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lafayette General Medical Center.
