Christine Lysobey Obituary

Christine Fetter Lysobey of Norwalk and Ludlow Vermont has died at the age of 93. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Lysobey. The daughter of the late Otto and Emma Fetter was born March 11, 1915. She emigrated at the age of 10 in 1925 from Germany with her sister and mother, joining her father where he had settled in Norwalk.

She was predeceased by daughters Jeanne Lysobey Bloom and Linda Lysobey Nelson and by her sister Gertrude Davis. She is survived by her sons David Lysobey and his wife Mary Beth of Arkansas, John Lysobey and his wife Denise of Fort Ann, New York, and Wayne Lysobey and his wife Beverly of Norwalk. She is also survived by her brother-in-law William Davis and niece Norma Picard and family. Chris and John have been blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.

As a high school athlete, Christine played basketball and softball. She was locally famous at one time for an unassisted triple play. In junior high school her ability earned her a spot on the high school softball team. Chris was also an excellent student. In her later years, she was inducted into the Norwalk Old Timers Hall of Fame.

Chris retired from the City of Norwalk, having worked at the Board of Education and the Parks and Recreation Department. She was a fixture for years as a scorekeeper for Church League basketball.

Over the years Chris was a Girl Scout leader and was active in school PTA, always an advocate for her children and grandchildren in their schools. She taught ceramics and was active in many local organizations. She served on the board of Cranbury Chapel, and was a long time member of Sprite Island Yacht Club and the Norwalk Ski Club. In February Chris and John sponsored the 30th annual Interclub Ski Race at Okemo Mountain in memory of their daughter Jeanne Bloom.

Chris and John shared a love of the water and spent many years cruising Long Island Sound and beyond with their family on their 1926 classic Elco, the Mis' Chris. Many of their early years were spent camping with their friends and young family. Later, they retired to Ludlow Vermont where they built a ski house to share with family and friends.

Chris stayed in touch with everyone throughout her life and was timeless in her way of relating to all the generations of family and friends. She was noted for her positive attitude, wisdom, sense of humor, and patriotism for her adopted country. She was up to date on the latest ball games, current events, and politics and enjoyed talking about these. She was looking forward to voting in the 2008 presidential election. Chris was an inspiration.

Friends may call on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Collins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave., Norwalk, CT.

Chris will be remembered fondly by me as a wonderful, smart and witty lady who is especially remembered at Christmas when I hang the ceramic snowflake ornaments she made me years ago on our tree...My thoughts and prayers to John and family.
