CHRISTY DELOACH Obituary

CHRISTY SUE SOUTHWELL DELOACH
Christy Sue Southwell Deloach passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the age of 56 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. The second of five children, Christy was born September 12, 1955 to Jim and Shirley Southwell in McAllen, Texas.
Christy is survived by her parents, her husband James Michael Deloach, her son Christopher, her twin daughters Lauren and Michelle, sisters Sheryl Jones (David), Sandra Robertson(Randy), Kim Scannell(John), brother James Southwell, Jr.(Tracy) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Christy graduated from McAllen High School in 1973 and then earned her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi in 1975. She worked as a dental hygienist in McAllen and Austin for a number of years. Health problems caused her early retirement. In 2008 Christy and Michael relocated to Port Isabel, Texas.
Christy will be remembered as a devoted, loving wife and mother. She was known for her smile and infectious laugh. She never met a stranger!
Christy loved her animals and had a number of pets over the years. She loved the beach and enjoyed the sunsets at South Padre with her husband Michael and their dog, Tipa. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on November 29th, 2011.
A celebration honoring her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 21 at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or the Arthritis Foundation.

Dear Southwell and DeLoach families,

Christy and I were best friends during elementary school days in McAllen, and though we didn't hang together so much during junior and high school (she was in band and a twirler...vs. unmusical and uncoordinated me), we always remained friends with a special fondness that comes only with being close childhood friends. I shared some wholesome first experiences with Christy which I remember to this day...like watching color TV for the first time at the Southwell's home. Christy would play the piano while I sat and listened...Greensleaves and Love is Blue were popular pieces. I was always in awe of Christy and her talent. She always had an exuberance, zest and sparkling smile that made me feel up and happy. I'm saddened to know Christy has passed and send my condolences to all her family whom I know must miss her dearly. I especially want Mr. and Mrs. Southwell to know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Truly,

Christy was a beautiful ray of sunshine. She was funny, warm and gracious. Her time on this planet was too brief. Her absence is a great loss. We are thankful that she is no longer suffering. She gave to all, especially her family, her immense love and joy. We extend our heart felt condolences.

I will never forget the first time Christy and I ever spoke. My brother was her doggies veterinarian and also knew she, like me, was pregnant with twins. Corky knew we were both excited; yet scared but mostly he wanted me to get to know an amazing woman with a smile and heart to match!

Christy and I talked frequently during our pregnancies but never met face to face until our twins were in kinder at SSV. Neither one of us knew our kids would be attending the same school. What a surprise!

As the years went on our girls became very close friends and spent many days and nights together. My son also loved spending time with their family, playing games, swimming and just "hanging out".

One of my favorite memories was taking our girls to the Backstreet Boys concert. As we were walking toward the "drum" (aka Erwin Center), silly Michelle fell into the water by Symphony Square. Although a little wet and perhaps spirit dampened there was nothing that was going to stop her (or anyone else) from seeing the "boys".

One of my other favorite memories was taking Lauren, Michelle and my dtr. to the "old" Albertson's. I won't go into details but I think everyone on Aisle 3 was cracking up. Likewise Christy and I laughed and laughed. Actually, I still do when I think of it.

Mike, Chris, Lauren, Michelle and to all of her other family members, please know our world has been truly blessed because of Christy. I know she and my brother are finally at peace, hoping and wishing that we too, will find it.

I wish each of you much love and comfort during this very difficult time.

We had the privilege of living next door to the DeLoach family for many years in Austin. One of my fondest memories of Christy was in October 1998, just after her diagnosis, and the flood. Still in the cleanup stage, she somehow found the strength to make cookies with her children to thank the firemen that assisted with our evacuation. She was always positive. May the love she shared with her husband, children and family provide you each with strength, comfort and guidance during this difficult time.
