Funeral services for James Arthur Altick (Jim) will be at 10:30 AM Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Very Rev'd T. Whitfield Stodghill, III, Rector, The Rev'd William R. Bryant, and The Rev'd Dr. Bette Jo Kaufman, Deacon, officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

James Arthur Altick (Jim), age 72, passed away at home in Monroe on July 27, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Dallas, Texas, in September, 1939. He moved to Monroe as a child and attended Georgia Tucker Grammar School and Neville High School where he met Louise Gray with whom he spent the next 60 years. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on a baseball pitching scholarship and was a member of DKE Fraternity. After graduating from LSU with a B.S. in Chemistry and a Masters of Business Administration, he moved back to Monroe and joined Central Bank in June of 1964. He retired as President and CEO of Central Bank in 1998 after 33 years. He believed people were the most important component of the organization. He loved and appreciated each of his employees and knew their names and family member's names.

Mr. Altick was a positive role model for his family, his employees, and his community. He was very involved in his children's and grandchildren's interests and activities. He received the Monroe Chamber of Commerce David Silverstein Award in 1993, and an honorary doctorate degree from University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) in 2000. He served on numerous community boards over the years. He served as an advisory board member to the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Monroe having served on the Board of Directors and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the Monroe Utilities Commission as Vice Chairman. He was a founding board member of the Foodbank of Northeast Louisiana and President of the Northeast Louisiana University Foundation.

Mr. Altick was very active in his support of the United Way of Northeast Louisiana having served as Campaign Chairman in 1993 and Chairman of the Board in 1997. He was responsible for establishing the Steamboat Club which recognizes substantial donors, and in 1999, he and his life long friend Hugh McDonald chaired the Capital Campaign for the purchase of the current United Way office building in Monroe.

He served as Vestry Member, Senior Warden and Chairman of the Building Committee while a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was currently a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Jim Altick loved his church, his family, his bank, and his community.

Mr. Altick was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) over thirteen years ago. He and his wife Louise were responsible for starting the Northeast Louisiana PD Support Group. This group meets monthly to help support those facing the challenges of living with Parkinson's Disease.

Mr. Altick was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Anthony Altick; mother, Irene Bernice Burton Altick; sister, Marianna Altick Pain; and grandson, James Arthur "Trey" Altick, III.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise Gray Altick, brother, Daniel Anthony Altick, Jr. and his wife, Connie Sue Altick, of Monroe; daughter, Ormond Altick Guenard and her husband , Jay, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son, James Arthur Altick, Jr. and his wife, Helena, of Monroe; daughter, Connie Altick Banovac and her husband, Filip, of Alexandria, Virginia: eight granddaughters, Courtney and Sarah Anne Guenard; Frances, Hannah and Abi Altick; Anna, Lauren and Lia Banovac; mother-in-law, Betty Ormond Gray of Monroe; brother-in-law, Courtland Prentice Gray, III and his wife, Pat, of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law, Woods Eastland Gray and his wife, Mary, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thanks to Dr. Richard Zweig of the LSU Medical Center staff, Dr. Don Hammett, Senior Care Services, and United Home Health and Premier Hospice for their untiring efforts in caring for Jim.
