Roy Leeson Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Sep. 10, 2016.
Roy passed away peacefully on Sunday August 28 2016 aged 78 years in Burnaby, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Saint Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba and came to B.C in the early 1950's. He was a proud member of the I.L.W.U. Local 502, working for 42 years in Vancouver as a Longshoreman on the docks in and around Vancouver.

Roy volunteered for over 50 years in his church and his community.

At the church he was a faithful usher in the sanctuary, drove children to Sunday school and was a respected Ranger of the Christian Service Brigade boys club for decades. His welcoming smile and charming manner were invaluable in the duties he cheerfully performed for many local sports groups; namely the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer club,

BC Lions football, the Coquitlam Express hockey team and the Burnaby Lakers lacrosse club. He warmed the hearts of all he worked with and inspired them with his dedication to any task he was given.

He is survived by "the love of his life" Shirley, wife of 28 years and his daughters Sharen Labrash, Mary Tudor (husband Michael) and Della Ganguin(fiancé Steve) as well as his beloved step children Paul Bichon (wife Jackie), Lisa Essex (husband Terry) . His adored grandchildren Beth Labrash, Lorilei Ganguin, Joshua Essex, Kayla Essex and Devon Bichon as well as Shirley's many Aunts and Uncles will have joyful memories to cherish as he enriched each and every one of their lives.

Roy will be remembered by all whose lives he touched for his caring and compassionate nature, the ability to bring laughter with his silly sense of humor and his devotion to God, his family and everyone around him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday September 18th 2016 at 2 P.M. at Kingsway Church 4061 Kingsway, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers please donate to the BC Cancer Agency.

The heritage and legacy of a man of God is to be cherished; and your family has something to cherish, even in this time of grief. May God grant you blessings and comfort at this time, and may Roy's continuing legacy see many boys and young men turn their hearts to Christ.

Roy was just a sweetheart of a fellow. He always nodded when I would go by and say hi. He took such excellent care of his wife, Shirley, and she of him. The colours in the picture are reminiscent of the last quilt Shirley made that he loved so much.
