SIDDOO, Dr. Sarjit Kaur
It is with deep sadness that the family formally announces her passing on February 22, 2013. She lived a long and rich life. She is predeceased by her father, Kapoor Singh Siddoo and mother Besant Kaur Siddoo. She is survived by her husband Dr. Avtar Atwal, daughter Dr. Chanda Siddoo-Atwal, and Sister Dr. Jagdis K. Siddoo (Donney). She was born on Vancouver Island where her father owned a lumber mill and spent many early years at Burnaby, Kapoor Sawmills (Barnet Beach). After graduating from UBC she and her elder sister attended the University of Toronto medical school and became the first two people of Indo-Canadian origin to graduate from a Canadian medical school. Sar, as she was known by her sister, had great adventures at the medical school. She had a pioneering spirit and had great generosity and caring for others and loved all animals. One of her favourite daily past times was feeding all God's creatures at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver. Together with her father and elder sister, they established The Kapoor Singh Canadian Hospital in India. It opened in 1958 and continues today to provide charitable medical relief to the less fortunate. Dr. Siddoo appreciated how privileged we are to be living here on this wonderful planet and throughout her life made a conscious effort, in both big and small ways, to make it a better place for all. We can all learn from her example.
A private funeral and cremation was held on February 26, 2013. The family requests privacy at this time. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Mount St. Joseph's Intensive Care Unit or a charity of your choice. In Memoriam.
