Steven Emery Obituary

CARTERVILLE -- Steven R. Emery, 49, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012.

He was born to Tony and Edith (Rains) Emery on Sept. 11, 1963.

Steve was a lifelong citizen of Carterville and a graduate of Carterville High School. He received his bachelor's in nursing from McKendree College and his certification for physician assistant from University of North Dakota. He had been a physician assistant at Logan Primary Care in Herrin since 1997.

On June 2, 1990, he married Wendy Smith. She survives along with his parents; sister, Tracy (Rick) Burgrabe of Carterville; niece, Kim (Ray) Wild of Herrin; nephew, Brandon Burgrabe of Carbondale; and niece, Randi Burgrabe of Carterville. Other survivors include mother-in-law, Paula Smith of Herrin; brothers-in-law, Mark (Mary Ellen) Smith and Brad (Ronda) Smith of Energy; and sister-in-law, Julie (Mark) Leposky of Carlsbad, Calif. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Ruby and Earl Emery; and maternal grandparents, Sam and Marcelle Hock.

Steve was a member of The Vine Church in Carbondale. He was an avid Bible student, led a small group from his church and mentored many others. His main goal in life was to bring everyone he could into the Kingdom of God.

Private services will be at a later date.

Donations in Steve's memory may be made to Gospel for Asia, 1800 Golden Trail Court, Carrollton, Texas 75010, or the charity of your choice.

Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.

Years ago, Steve would work midnights at the ER, then volunteer on the ambulance on his nights/days off. He has had a great impact for good on all those around him. He is a shining example to all around him, in his life and his walk with the Lord...

Dear Wendy and Family, Steve will be truly missed by many people including me. Steve was a great man. I did not know him long, but he allowed me to shadow him for several weeks in my pursuit to become a primary care provider. I learned much from Steve and will use the skills he taught me in my future. He always had caring attitude and provided Christ-like care towards his patients.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Steve was such an amazing person. I am so glad that I had the honor of working with him at Logan Primary Care. My husband Terry passed away Aug 4th 2012. It was Steve who suspected cancer and referred my husband to the Onocoloigist. What a wonderful man Steve was and I will always think of this man who I feel saved my life when I was diagnoised with lung cancer. He held my hands and said a prayer. Within three weeks after scheduling test I had surgery. I will forever be grateful to have had Steve as my doctor.My prayers goes out to his wife and family. He touched so many lives.

Tony, Edie, and family, Stevie was the greatest person I ever knew. We grew up together and I learned so much from him. As we grew older, it seemed we grew even closer.
