Chaturbhuj SISODIA Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Mar. 24 to Mar. 25, 2014.
Dr. Chaturbhuj Singh Sisodia
Dr. C.S. Sisodia was born on April 2, 1934 to Thakur Udaibir Singh and Smt. Jaiwanti Devi at Delhi, India. He married Vimla Tomar on May 18, 1957. He passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 79. Chaturbhuj is survived by his beloved wife Vimla (Tomar) Sisodia; daughters Monika (Kumar) Visvanatha and Shalini (Randhir) Thakur; and his loving grandchildren: Anisha, Kern, Rohini, Chandini, Keshav and Shivani. Dr. Sisodia was a respected member of the community. He aided in establishing the Hindu Temple and served on the Board for some time. He enjoyed music, great company and a good martini with close friends. He also spread joy to many people with his little gifts of candy. Dr. Sisodia received his B.V.Sc. & A.H. in 1958 from the U.P. College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (Agra) University at Mathura, U.P. India; his M.S. in 1960 at Michigan State University; his PhD. in 1964 form the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology since 1975, Associate Professor and Department Head of Pharmacology at Hissar Veterinary College (PAV) from January 1 - April 30, 1965, Professor and Head at Mathura Veterinary College from May 1, 1965 - July 1968. He joined the U of S Faculty in Sept. 1968. He served there in different positions including Department Head from 1984 - 1990 and he taught Pharmacology and Toxicology to Veterinary students. Dr. Sisodia retired from the U of S. faculty on June 30, 2001. He was a founding member of the Toxicology Group and Toxicology Graduate Program at the University of Saskatchewan. His legacy to the University of Saskatchewan includes an internationally recognized graduate program in toxicology with alumni employed throughout the world, and planting the seed for an undergraduate program in toxicology. It was evident to all students and faculty members associated with the program that Dr. Sisodia had a great passion for students and for teaching. The impact Dr. Sisodia made in the lives of the students he taught, the faculty he collaborated with, the staff he worked alongside of, and the family he shared his life with, is comparable to no other. It was his wish, that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: The Dr. C.S. Sisodia Graduate Fund (c/o Adriana Brown) Toxicology Centre, 44 Campus Drive, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK S7N5B3 (cheques should be made out to the U of S). Money from this fund will be made available to graduate students to help with their expense for their thesis publication and research travel. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care and love they showed all of us. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave. N). Condolences may be emailed to [email protected] Arrangements are entrusted to the

It has been a difficult week with the loss of our dear Uncle. Today in memorium we pray for his departed soul to rest in peace. We have many happy memories with Uncle. He was an intellectual and leader in his field but at the same time he was so humble. He made every kid smile and even as we grew up to be adults he would always have the ever present candy ready for us. We will miss him a lot and our trips to Saskatoon will not be the same without him there.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bimal Aunty, Mona, Shalu and all the family who are grieving at this most difficult time. Our hearts are with you. May God give strength to all.

Dear Chatur Bhai- the departed soul:
You came to this world almost 80 years ago and today you have left your dear & warm family and friends for ever for your heavenly abode – the place for the final journey for humans.

You came to Saskatoon in 1968 bringing a new charm and dedication for our community. Your dedication both in research and teaching as well as in administration in the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan was admirable. It was you who induced many new pleasant things into our Bharat community in Saskatoon. It was you who guided the path for the establishment of our Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple (1983-85) in Saskatoon.

We could never explain how grateful we are to have you as a friend and as a mentor. Yes, you were always with us with a sympathetic ear, an encouraging word, and an understanding heart. Friendship with you and with your family was one of the most valuable gifts we have ever been given.

Indeed, your friendship was a special gift to all of us that we will always miss.
Chatur Bhai, our prayers to the Almighty are for giving peace to your departed soul in his Heavenly Abode.

May the Almighty shower some strength upon our Vimal Bhabhi and her family (Mona and Shalu & family members) to face such an unbearable loss of our Chatur Bhai.

Affectionately yours,

Madan & Suman Gupta & Family

Uncle…your spirit for life will live forever in my heart and the hearts of so many. An amazing amount of my earliest childhood memories are spent in your lap, at your house (especially in the bean-bag chairs) laughing and playing. While the intrigue of how Starburst candies appeared from my ears dwindled with age, the joy of spending time with you never did. You were there at every major milestone in my life, with words of encouragement, a three piece suit, and a warm smile. I have nothing but the utmost love and respect for you. Love you forever. Your ‘beta'. Vishi

Dear Vimlaji, Mona, Shalu and their families, we are deeply sorry to hear about the passing away of dear Chaturbhai as we fondly addressed Dr. Sisodia. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Dr. Sisodia contributed on many fronts. Besides being founding member of the Hindu Society of Saskatchewan, I was privileged to know him at the University. He was the only Board Certified Toxicologist in the province of Saskatchewan. He had lion share in establishing Toxicology Department at the University of Saskatchewan. As such many of us sought his guidance and advice.
Chaturbhai was always cheerful, a popular grand papa and uncle among children. He appreciated and valued friendship. Those of us, who made Saskatoon as home 45 years ago, Dr. Sisodia, was a respected member and one of pioneer among Indian community. We were honoured to have his friendship, a man of great grace and poise. Community will certainly miss him.

Prof Sisodia was one of my professors during my doctoral studies in the graduate program in toxicology at U of S during the mid 1980s. He was an excellent teacher and I learned a great deal from him. He was a driving force behind the graduate program in toxicology. I still recall the kindness he and his wife extended to tge toxicology grad students by inviting them to their home for a dinner. I want to extend my sincere condolences to his family.
