JERRY OVERBY
LINCOLN — Jerry D. Overby, 75, of Lincoln, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, Ill.
Jerry was born April 25, 1940, in Leora, Mo., the son of Carl and Lucy Johns Overbey. He married Nancy Ostendorf August 18, 1962 in Edwardsville, Ill. She survives in Lincoln.
He is also survived by one son, Michael (Karen) Overby of Bloomington, one daughter, Michelle (Tito) Gomez of Petersburg, two sisters, Betty Bowermaster of Hartford, Ill., Georgia Unthank of Godfrey, Ill.; three grandchildren, Anthony Gomez, Mark Overby and Nick Overby.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter; and grandson, Patrick.
Jerry was a lifelong educator and retired as Superintendent of Lincoln Community High School, Lincoln. He was a member of Holy Family Church; the Knights of Columbus; and the Elks Lodge #914. He was an avid sports fan, loved basketball, golfing, and was an avid Cardinal fan.
Services for Jerry will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Holy Family Church with Rev. Simon Taabu officiating. Visitation will be at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, 4-7 p.m. Thursday evening, Oct. 15, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Edwardsville Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill. Memorials may be given in Jerry's name to Holy Family Church of Lincoln.

We were so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I was on the Neoga Board of Education when Jerry was our Superintendent. He worked for the referendum and it passed. Jerry and Nancy were our friends, too. Jerry was an excellent Superintendent.
