Wesley Dunn Obituary

Wesley W. "Chief" Dunn Sr., 84, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday at home. He is survived by his wife, the former Marcia Senuk.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert E. Dunn and Alice Mildred Swope. He was a graduate a Clarks Summit Abington High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War from January 1953-January 1955. He served as a heavy tank engine rebuild specialist team leader and was assigned to the 601st Ordnance Group, Germany, and was awarded the Good Conduct Ribbon, the National Defense Ribbon and the European Occupation Ribbon, also his unit was awarded two presidential citations for performance excellence. He was appointed chief of police of South Abington Twp. on March 1, 1966, and served until his retirement on June 1, 1991. During that period, he furthered his education at Penn State University, the University of Louisville, Ky., and received degrees from King's College, Wilkes-Barre, in public administration and criminal justice administration with a minor in sociology. On June 1, 1991, he began serving as the chief of police of the borough of Clarks Summit, Pa. He received several awards at the state, county and national levels for his performance as a police officer.

He served as a volunteer with the Abington Little League, coaching and managing Pony, Farm and Little League teams for 18 years. He was a licensed auctioneer in the state of Pa. since 1979, after graduating from the Pa. Auctioneering School. He volunteered his services conducting auctions for charitable causes, including the Abington Community Library, Little Sisters of the Poor, the American Red Cross, the Trail Rotary, several churches and other civic organizations. To date, he and his wife Marcia have helped raise over a quarter of a million dollars for charity.

Chief Dunn was a member of the Northeast Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, the International Chiefs of Police Association, the Pa. Chiefs of Police Association, the Northeast Chiefs of Police Association and was past president/secretary of the Penn-York Police Association, the Pa. State Auctioneer Association, the Northeast Auctioneers Association and VFW Post 7069. He was a member of Waverly Lodge 301 Free and Accepted Masons, the Keystone Consistory and Irem Temple Shrine. He was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, and a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club of the Abingtons, entering June 4, 1981, and served as director and president from 1993-1994. His hobbies were sketching, painting and playing golf. He was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club.

Also surviving are children, Wesley Jr., Boston; Scott and wife, Vivian, Marceline, Mo.; Lynn Marie Viechec and husband, Gary, Hazle Twp.; Timothy and wife, Samantha, Allentown; David and wife, Tara, Lititz; stepchildren, Sam Senuk and wife, Lisa, Clarks Summit; and Sharon Langan and husband, Christopher, Clarks Summit; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Cleveland Dunn.

Friends may call Monday, 4 to 7:30 p.m., at the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., South Scranton. A parastas service will be held at 7:30 by the Rev. Michael Danczak, pastor of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox church. Private interment will be in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by Deserae Gondella Malone, funeral director.

I've known Chief for 23 years and a more kind and generous man I never knew. I am a very close member of the family and Chief will be missed greatly. His children Sharon Langan and Sam Senek and their children loved him and will miss him terribly. Marcia was a wonderful wife to Chief as he was a wonderful husband. They were always together and were very close. My deepest condolences to Chiefs family. He was loved and respected and the community has lost a great friend. Leslee jacoby
