Kenneth Woodruff Obituary

Kenneth D. Woodruff, 73, of Union Dale, died late Tuesday at Community Medical Center. His wife of 47 years is the former Carol Butler.

Born Sept. 22, 1936, in Corning, N.Y., he was the son of the late William K. and Diana Fenton Woodruff. He was a graduate of Corning Academy High School. He received a master's degree in geology from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio, and a master's degree from Lehigh University. Ken was employed at the University of Delaware in the geological survey for 26 years. He was a hydrogeologist with Lockheed Martin/EPA in Edison, N.J., for the past 10 years.

He was a member of the Welsh Hill Bethel Congregational Church, Union Dale. Ken was an outdoor and nature enthusiast who loved fishing, hiking and bird watching. He was also a gifted pianist who brought joy to others through his music.

He is survived by three daughters, Marsha Wiegand and husband, Robert, Lancaster; Valerie Woodruff, Wilmington, Del.; and Barb Snow and husband, John, Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Brad Woodruff and wife, Michelle, Medford, Mass.; a sister, Pamela Bennett and husband, Wayne, Corning; a brother, William Woodruff, Oregon; three grandchildren, Lydia and Eden Woodruff and Shannon Snow; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford.

I worked with Mr. Woodruff on one of his projects in Asheville, NC last year. Though I didn't know him very well, he was a pleasure to work for and a wonderful fellow to talk with. I will miss getting to see him again....
