Nelwyn Rhodes Harris, 100, of Alexandria, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at her residence.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eric Wyckoff Harris; her parents, Thomas Allen and Oma Winn Rhodes; and three brothers, Thomas Allen Rhodes, Jr, James Warren Rhodes and Harold Winn Rhodes.

Nelwyn attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, MS, and then graduated from business school in Shreveport. After graduation she went to work for Hemingway Furniture Company in Shreveport and was later transferred to Alexandria, where she met and married the love of her life Eric Wyckoff Harris. After getting married Nelwyn chose to remain at home and take care of their three children. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, was an avid reader, and took great pride in her needlepoint work, particularly the five portraits of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Deep South Garden Club, the Alexandria Garden Club, the Junior League of Alexandria, and First United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Eric Wyckoff Harris, Jr. of Moncks Corner, SC; her daughters, Sandra Harris Kearney and her husband Michael of Alexandria, and Conni Harris Smith of Lafayette; grandchildren, Samuel "Trey" Young Brooks, III, Harris Wyckoff Brooks and his wife Vicki, Anna Connel Brooks, Curry Wyckoff Smith, and Charles Allen "Cas" Smith and his fiancé Caroline Amelia Frugé; great grandchildren, Addison Elise Brooks, Megan Elizabeth Lusk, and Maycie Nichole McCauley; great-great grandchildren, Millie Anne Caylin Lusk, and Jaylie Elizabeth Wyckoff Lusk; and one sister, Beverly Sue Mott, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Alexandria at 2727 Jackson St., Alexandria, LA 71301; to the Lions Club of Alexandria at Post Office Box 13, Alexandria, LA 71309; or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, hospice nurses, Tiffany Johnson and Tahnee Perry; and to Mrs. Harris's sitters, Dianna Harris, Linda McKinley, and Annie Williams, for all the love, care and compassion given.
