I am so sorry to hear about Coach Allgood. He was such a special man, and I thought the world of him. I remember him teaching me swimming at the indoor pool at LC when I was small. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

First, I would like to pass on my heart felt condolences to Mrs. Allgood, Duke and the extended family and friends. Coach Allgood was a coach who embraced me @ early age, letting me have access to his wisdom & knowledge of life, religion, athletics and unlimited access to the field house to hone my basketball skills. Coach, and Coach Rushing shared an interest in my ability to play the game of basketball. I can remember sometime Coach would be bothered with his ailing back and would be on his back inverter in his office and next moment on the court conducting intense defensive maneuvers by example to his team @ practice. Each winter when I volunteer coach basketball to my 5 thru 9 year old's inner city kids @ the LA county recreation league. I employ many of the saying and methods to teach and motivate players to learn the game. Oh yeah, sometime they will look @ me with the greatest of bewilderment or say where in the world did you get that "sayin" or "quote" when channeling my inner coach Billy...I just reply...Coach its "All...Good ". I don't have many regrets in my life, but I wish I could have played basketball for him. RIP Coach Billy...God's team need a coach in heaven.
"Come to me, All you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"... Matthew 11:28

One of the greatest privileges of my years on the earth was to serve on the Louisiana College Staff with Billy Allgood. In 1977 one of the highly attended Homecomings "Wild Cats come Home" filled the West Field House to over flowing. The attendance was so large that Mrs. Allgood had difficulty getting past the officers who were turning people away due to fire department requirements. She made it and Billy and the basketball team played a great game that was enjoyed by large gathering of Alumni & Friends.

"Bow up, boy!" How many times did I hear that pointed but pertinent phrase playing both basketball and baseball under Coach Allgood? Do you think there ever was a lame "no good" lashing-out reference behind closed doors in the A-Dorm following an exhausting practice frequently featuring a disarming dressing down? But over time, immaturity faded as anyone with an ounce of integrity or athletic knowledge knew Billy was equal to, if not superior to, his counterparts at larger universities. Through the good and bad and ups and downs, BillyBall was a microcosm of what lay ahead years later for all of us privileged to be his pupil. I've come to cherish those life lessons learned under Billy's tutelage. Admittedly, it wasn't always a day at the beach. Regrettably, I hold the Hall of Shame distinction of losing baseball home opener christening "The Field That Billy Built" as a flailing freshman. But I'm sure Billy would tell me there is a bigger picture and more vital things to dwell on, to get over myself, and bow up one more time. Guess what? Whether I wanted to hear it or not, he again would be absolutely right! Billy was always a Southern gentleman to my now deceased mother-in-law; for which I am grateful. My sincere condolences to ex-batterymate Duke and his entire family.

Played baseball under Coach at LC duringk the 59-61 seasons. He as an outstanding mentor and great athlete unto himself.. Pitched batting practice and was better than any pitcher we faced during regular season. A great mentor and an inpiration for me through life. RIP Coach

Frances,
Coach Allgood touched the lives of many of us in Meridian, Ms. High School and especially the
members of his basketball teams from 1955- 1957. i was a member of that team that encouraged us to make the best effort on the court because that would become a part of our witness to others. Thank you for giving us a mentor
