Olive Boardman Obituary

WATERBURY - Olive M. Boardman, 93, a lifelong resident of Waterbury, passed away at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. Born in Waterbury Center on June 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Minnie (Ward) May.

On Jan. 19, 1938, she married Elwin Boardman in Burlington. Mr. Boardman passed away on June 8, 1972.

Olive was a 1936 graduate of Waterbury High School and then went to work at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury as a psychiatric technician, retiring in 1980 following 44 years of service. In addition to her work, Olive was busy and happy as a homemaker and raising five children. Her memberships included the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury and the Barre Moose Club.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting and watching stock car racing at Thunder Road.

Her family lovingly remembers Olive for her kind, gentle and giving spirit.

Olive is survived by her children, Shirley Boardman and Barbara Santamore, both of Waterbury, and Phillip Boardman, Robert Boardman and Merton Boardman Sr., all of Middlesex; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Dunster of Duxbury; a sister-in law, Maggie May of East Montpelier; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Boardman, and a brother, Everett May.

Memorial services will be held from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m., where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. A reception will follow in the fireplace room of the church. Inurnment will take place in the Waterbury Center Cemetery.

To the many friends and family of Olive, I send my sympathy. I remember Olive and my mother sitting around drinking coffee and visiting. Most of that generation is gone now.
The world is not the same as it was then. What a loss.

Olive loved to watch The Price is Right (as well as other game shows), the Lawrence Welk show (which is part of the reason why I watch it), Hee Haw, and the daytime soaps.
I will also fondly remember her for the rag babies that she made, as well as pea wiggle/salmon wiggle, and all the pies at Thanksgiving.
These are just a few of my memories of her.
