CANTON — In the afternoon of Dec. 31, 2014, Ruth Ann Celmer went to meet her Lord and Savior and complete the family circle at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, at the age of 95.
Born in Plymouth on Oct. 6, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ann Gillispie Sims. She was a member of the 1937 graduating class of Plymouth High School.
On Nov. 27, 1941, she married her best friend and love of her life, Andrew Thomas Celmer. Together they shared 59 years of wedded bliss.
Mrs. Celmer was the quintessential homemaker, baking and cooking and decorating cakes for family and friends. The dinner table at her home always had invited guests, which she called friends, to enjoy her delicious cooking.
A woman of great faith, she was a member of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, its choir and Ladies Aide Society and was honored for more than 50 years of service as a Sunday school teacher, where her kindness and caring touched many lives.
Music was also a big part of her life, as she would share her talent as a soloist for special events and at church.
She was also a former member of the Plymouth Hose Company No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary where she held many offices.
After living in Plymouth for 94 years, she moved to Canton to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, making new friends, but her heart never left her hometown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew, in 2000; brothers, Arthur, Thomas, Charles, William, Paul and John Sims; sisters, Margaret Paul, Mable Balleck, Louise Hunlock, Miriam Boyd and Mae Jones; many nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her children, Andrea and Carl Sutton, Canton, and William Celmer, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Carl and Wendy Sutton, Dallas, Stacey and Dean Kenefick, Drexel Hill, William and Andrew Celmer; great-grandchildren, Floyd and Lydia Sutton, Dallas, Hailey and Hannah Kenefick, Drexel Hill, Alison, Ashley and Natalie Celmer; sisters-in-law, Connie and Jean Sims and Margaret Pollock; many special and caring nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Franklin Street Primitive Church, 181 Franklin St., Plymouth. Funeral services will immediately follow, with her friend, the Rev. David Wildoner, officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Franklin Street Primitive Church, 181 Franklin St., Plymouth, PA 18651; or St. John's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 313, Canton, PA 17724; or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were under the care and trust of the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, Canton.
