Patricia Carney Obituary

Patricia Jean Carney 1950 - 2020
ILION - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Jean Entwistle Carney, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend. March 1950 ~ December 2020
Patricia was the first born of Rita Ann (Horn) Entwistle and the late George Patrick Entwistle, Sr. She was raised locally, receiving her education from Ilion High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1968.
Shortly thereafter, she met and fell in love with John C. Carney and the couple was married on July 21, 1974, at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. Together, Patricia and John shared a loving and devoted union of over 46 years.
Pat's first and foremost priority in life, were her three beloved children and granddaughter - the lights of her life. She spent many years at home with them, giving them a storybook upbringing. Her many talents, however, led her down multiple avenues in life and she held various positions throughout the years, each one giving her a purpose and the satisfaction of helping others.
She was a small business entrepreneur, selling her perfectly crafted peanut brittle, Twistle's Brittle and operating Dove Tours. She spent time as a tour guide with the Remington Museum and as a representative of the American Red Cross, amongst others. She also spent time working in the family store, Carney's Corners. By far, Pat was most proud of her accomplishments with the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts; planning bus tours to take in the beauty of the theater and arts.
As an artist, Pat held a deep affinity for painting. You could often find her in the countryside looking for idyllic scenes for inspiration. Pat played piano by ear and needed no formal training. These are just a few of her many gifts and talents. The world was her palette and she not only focused her abilities into her paintings, but also into the meticulous care she gave to her home, her garden, her cooking, her baking and her family. Her innocence and purity were qualities to be admired.
Pat gave of herself endlessly and was a volunteer with Catholic Charities and the Utica Rescue Mission. She was faithful to her Catholic traditions and a parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church, downtown Utica.
In March, after many months of chemotherapy, Pat had won the battle of her life. She beat lymphoma and was embracing life, her family and her passions – all the things she had fought so valiantly for.
Aside from all of her many ventures, Patricia's greatest accomplishment in her life was the family that her and John created together. She was a faithful and loving wife; a doting and caring mother and above all else, the most amazing grandmother "Emma" to her beloved, Alexa Rose.
Her legacy will live on through her family and through them her memory will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, John; her mother, Rita; her daughters, Maureen Carney and fiancé, Lou Aiello and Kristen Carney; her son, John Carney; and her beloved granddaughter, Alexa Rose Aiello, all of Ilion. She also leaves her siblings, George and Georgia Entwistle, of Binghamton, William and Annie Entwistle, of NV, Karen and Ronald Urtz, of Ilion, Eileen and Dave Renton, of NV and Judith and Gregory Vieira, of FL; her in-laws, Joseph and Joan Carney, of Little Falls and Madeline Carney, of Herkimer; along with her aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, with special mention of her three nephews, Jon Urtz and fiancée Christine Lang, Jesse and Alexis Urtz and Joseph and Stephanie Urtz.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her in-laws, Jack and Ann Carney; her brother-in-law, Brian Carney; and her beloved feline, Phoebe and canine, Foca.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, January 4, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Patricia's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning, January 5, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Thomas Servatius, Pastor. Spring interment will take place in the Entwistle Family Cemetery.
The Carney family has entrusted the care of their beloved Patricia to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
