It's been seven years and although Kevin is gone he is not far away. We think of him, toast to him at Steven's 60th birthday, laugh often about stories he told, and smile with warmth of all the memories we still carry with us. Yes, Kevin, you are never far away.

Richie and I were so saddened and shocked when we received the phone call from Kathy the other day. Our hearts go out to all of the family. Richie and John Sheridan were police partners for about 9 years in the Bronx. Fond memories of the entire family. May Kevin and Shirley rest in peace.

To Cathy and the girls please accept my sincere and profound condolences. To Kevin you were great in stature and humble by nature. It was clear from the moment I met you that you were proud of your family as I know they are of you. Your work on and off the parade square will be sorely missed. You were instrumental in breathing life into a fledgling CSC Pipes and Drums Band. I was honoured to have followed your lead on parade in Albany and New York City. Stand easy Lt. we'll take it from here.

Dodee, Girls, Shirley, and Kathy,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Kevin's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kevin was a unique person. A born leader, intelligent, funny, generous, and very persuasive- who else could get a German in to the Emerald Society? He was crazy enough to have a good time, yet responsible enough to not over-do it.

I had some of the best times of my life with Kevin. We were roommates, we worked together at several jobs, and he did me the honor of standing up for me when I was married. His impish sense of humor and our mutual thirst for a good time, led to some scenes that movies are made of! I considered him a brother long before I joined him in the Department of Corrections.

Monday we honor him, but please know it has always been an honor for me to know him, and all of you as well. We grieve together, but please keep faith that we shall see him again.

So with a moist eye, I tell you these few things now… for when I see you, I don't know if I'll be able to say anything more than I am sorry.

November 9, 2013

How can the loss of someone as special as Kevin ever be understood? He will always be remembered as a man of integrity who was respected among his friends, family and peers. Personally, I considered him among my closest friends even though we would only see each other a few times a year for the past 35 years. Each time, it was as if we had just seen each other yesterday. There was something special when you walked into a room and saw his face. There was always a welcoming smile and a warm embrace.

Kevin was a man that worked hard ad played hard. The last time I saw him he was planning on his retirement and looking forward to reaping the rewards of a long hard career by spending quality time with family and friends. He always had some profound perspectives and insights to share, often hidden within a hilarious anecdote. He leaves us now with a final insight that we should all take to heart. At any moment we may discover that it will be our last moment on this earth. Take the time now to be with your loved ones and special friends. Life is truly much too short and in this case not very fair.

Our hearts go out to Dodee and the girls as well as the rest of Kevin's family and friends. Dodee (for 35 years I would spell your name as Dotie and you never said a word!), you have friends for life with Andrea and I. We hope and expect that you will let us share in your future.

Kevin, you will be missed but never forgotten.
