Harold Queen Obituary

Harold A. Queen, 78, of Center Avenue, Jim Thorpe, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Ida M. "Boots" (Swartz) Queen. They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on Dec. 11. He was active as a partner in the Queen Beverage Co., Jim Thorpe, from 1951-67, and was later employed by the Mauch Chunk Trust Co. He began his employment there on Jan. 15, 1967; was elected secretary/treasurer on Sept. 1, 1967; became a director on Jan. 1, 1970; and was elected executive vice president in 1977.A 1977 graduate of a two-year course of the Pennsylvania School of Banking (sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bankers Association) at Bucknell Universary, he was elected president of the bank in 1978 and served until retiring from that position in 1992, although remaining a current director of its board.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Harold and Katherine (Maehrer) Queen, and was a lifelong resident of Jim Thorpe.
He graduated in 1951 from the former Mauch Chunk High School in 1951, where he was president of his class.
Queen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Heights) of Jim Thorpe; Carbon Lodge No. 242, F. and A.M.; the Lilly Royal Arch Chapter No. 181; Packer Commandery No. 23, Knights Templar; and the Rajah Temple, AAONMS.
The deceased was a former director of the Atlantic Central Bankers Bank; a director of the Pa. Association of Community Bankers; and a member, Non-member Bank Advisory Council-Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Queen also served as a past president, vice president and treasurer and a member of the board of trustees of the Dimmick Memorial Library, Jim Thorpe; financial vice president and a trustee of Palmerton Hospital; treasurer and on the board of trustees of the YMCA of Mauch Chunk; and a member, past president and treasurer of the Jim Thorpe Lions Club.
Surviving in addition to his widow are cousins.
He was also predeceased by a brother Robert.
Service: All services are private and at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his name may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe, Pa. 18229, or the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Phila., Pa. 19140.
