James Andrew KUNZ obituary

James KUNZ Obituary

KUNZ James Andrew Out, out brief candle! He should have died hereafter. There would have been a time and place for such a word. Not so . . . James Andrew Kunz, 34, died Friday, November 25, 1011. On a snowy December 20, 1975 Jamie was born to Tom and Elaine Kunz. He attended Douglas Road Elementary and graduated from Bedford High School in 1995. While at Bedford, he participated in track in pole vaulting. Jamie earned a B.S in Criminal Justice at the University of Toledo in 2002. He was employed as a Senior Security Officer at Detroit Edison's Fermi plant. Jamie always embraced life and fun. Early, he had a fondness for vehicles - 4-wheelers, his beloved 1979 Firebird Trans-Am later - a motorcycle; the faster the vehicle, the better. If it weren't fast enough when he purchased it, he upgraded to faster. He liked to race remote-controlled cars with his friends. The remote-controlled helicopter resulted in more repairs than air time. Video games and electronics- 3-D TV, surround system, phones . . . whatever, he had them all. Having spent summers at Catawba, Jamie naturally turned to boating. The last three years he has enjoyed trips to Put-in-Bay, Catawba, and 'just around'. Witty, kind, loving, and outgoing, Jamie was loyal to friends, family and co-workers. Every phone conversation or face to face meeting with family ended with - "I love you". Always, he voiced his appreciation for what his parents, brother, Beth, and co-workers did for him, often followed by: "You do too much." In family gatherings, Jamie was the laugh-getter and laugh-maker. On Dad-sponsored family outings to restaurants, he ordered the most expensive entrée. He enjoyed the " shock" on his dad's face as much as he loved the good food and time with family. Although Jamie had many friends, his best friend was his older brother, Rob. Two years younger than Rob, Jamie and Rob had friends in common. In adulthood, Rob and Jamie's relationship deepened, they spent timetogether doing things, just being together, looking out for each other, and helping the other through trying times. At the time of his death, Jamie was struggling with a severe back injury; Rob visited him often. "I love you, brother" was their farewell to each other. To a degree, Jamie was charmed. Often when pushing the limit and being warned he'd say: "Don't jinx me." Left to miss, remember, and mourn him so much are his parents, Tom and Elaine Kunz; brother, Rob Kunz (Beth Richardville (fiancé) love of his life, Caryn Wagner; and long-time family friend, Robin Rybka. Also surviving are his uncles and aunts, Jack and Helen Kunz, Clarence and Teresa Lance, Bob Lance, and many cousins. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman Rd.) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to charity of one's choice. pawlakfuneralhome.com

I graduated high school with Jamie in 95. Shortly after that Jamie and I worked 2 summers at the GM Power Train plant in Toledo. What an experience! Jamie and I were inseparable spending nearly everyday together before, during and after work. We became very close during this time. Jamie had a great sense of humor; we laugh and goofed around constantly. I had the pleasure of riding in that 1979 Trans-Am Jamie loved so much and boy did he drive fast....scary fast! Jamie's passing is really sad and hard to accept because he was such a great person. He will be missed. I know how close he was to his family and friends so my thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

Jamie was responsible for connecting me to my future wife. If it hadn't been for him, we probably would never starting dating, got married, and started a family.

I remember him as classmate, jokester, and a friend.

Thanks Jamie.

Dear Kunz Family,
Reading everyone's memories of Jamie certainly proves that my individual interactions with him were very much the same as the dozens of people sending you condolences. Jamie offered the best of himself to everyone he encountered; he treated everyone with a respect and friendship that we should all try to emulate.
what i know for sure is that the world was better with Jamie in it. Everyone who was lucky enough to share a part of their life with him can keep his spirit alive by trying to be more like him.

Today my heart is saddened by the loss of a great friend, a great man, and a joyful, happy spirited all around great guy to all. He had the best parents, love you Tom & Elaine, and the most awesome older brother, Rob. He was the best man at my wedding, dated a few of my girl friends, was there for the birth of my kids, and was always there when I needed him. I hope Jamie knows how many lives He has touched, and how many people loved him, and how many people will never forget him. He was loved by all!! Love and miss you now, always and forever!!

Words fail me. Damn you were one of the most joyous, upbeat, funny, down to earth, real, unpretentious persons I have ever met. To say you will be missed is a huge understatement.

If there is anything that I take from this is that our time is short. Live your life, find joy in the little things, be positive and value people. In other words, be like Jamie.

Dear Elaine, Tom, and Rob,
Your pain cannot be soothed by words, but by prayer, love, and your precious memories of Jamie. Those of us who love you may feel helpless, struggling to find some way to provide comfort, but it must be ourselves that we offer.....our companionship, our tears, the sharing of memories, coffee, lunches, going for drives, endless hugs....
Elaine, so many times we shared the escapades of our children....how I would laugh at those Jamie and Rob stories. And how you would fret and worry, and eventually end up saying, "It's all right." And it was.
For years we shared our lives, and those of our children. I cherish those times.
Now you must blanket yourselves in Jamie moments....stockpile them, share them, and speak of them often.
Talk to him when you feel him within.
He was loved and this bond never dies.
May you find strength and peace as you cling to eachother now and in those difficult times that come in waves. You are strong, and Jamie will glide you through those waves.
Love,
Donna & Rick

Elaine,

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I have thought of you often over the years and was saddened today to read of your son's passing. Please know you will be in my thoughts and meditations.

Sincerely, your former student

November 29, 2011

As I sit here and try to say all of the great things about you, I can't come up with the words. Even though I haven't spoken to you in almost 10 years, you are one of very few people I could walk up to and strike up a conversation with like I had just talked to you yesterday.

This is to let your family know that you are as special to the people who knew you as you are to them.

Gonna miss ya my friend.

I interviewed the same day as Jamie and went through training with him. Though our whole class got along great I had the pleasure of getting to know Jamie the best. My life will be richer because he was a part of it. Jamie you will missed and always in my thoughts.

November 29, 2011

As one of Jamie's original training instructors at Fermi, I can say his compassion for others was evident. He always looked out for his team mates, he held them up when they were struggling and always was a shining example of TEAM. He was certainly our comic relief most of the time yet he was the first one to say, "Let's do what's right and what we need to do to get the job done". He was one of my favorites and he will be sorely missed by me along with all of his many friends and by those team mates that he always looked after. I am so sorry for the loss of your son and may he be at peace with all of his eternal questions answered. With my deepest sympathies, Cheryl Hill

Everyone that has known you Kunz will miss you, God Bless you! Deepest sympathies go out to your family.

November 29, 2011

We are so very saddened by the loss of Jamie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We had such a good time living on Clegg Road! Keeping track of the boys, at times, was a challenge but we even had fun in doing that! If they had only known about all those phone calls back and forth; comparing stories, sharing information and spying on them in the field. They were always up to something... Jamie, Mac and Rob! If they weren't camped out at your house, they were at ours, always scheming onto the next great adventure! The Kunz boys were the brothers Mac never had! So many great moments in time; ones we deeply cherish. Fun, fun, from sunrise to sunset, those boys kept us busy! Cars, motorbikes, 4-wheelers, camp outs, cookouts, sledding, boating, swimming, mischievous play out in the field, on and on, from adolescent to teen years. Then came the dating and parties! (Again, in the field with their cars, no less...perhaps, they figured out we were spying on them... using their cars to hide what they were doing, those little devils!). And remember those Halloween costumes? Jamie... always had the best one! Jamie may be gone but definitely not forgotten; sweet, fun, loving, caring, charming (everyone's best friend) and the "happy to see you attitude" that fills the room to this day... whenever you think of him, as if you can feel his presence light up the room! He brought us such joy! You should be so proud, Elaine and Tom! We loved him so very much... Mac, Carrie and Kelly, too! May it comfort you that your loss is shared by those who love and care about you. Dee and Bill Good (Temperence, MI)

As we travel through life, we'll meet thousands of people and, forget most of them.
Others whom we do remember, we'll remember them because there is something about them that sets them apart and makes them worth remembering for us.
Jamie was just one of those "real" people that others can't help but like, appreciate and, remember.
As the shock creeps away and the tears dry, we'll think of him and smile because, he's always made us smile. The memories that bring those smiles are a gift we'll carry for a lifetime.

Thanks for that gift Jamie. I'll use it often.
