Brett Langston Obituary

Brett D. Langston

July 17, 1959 - September 4, 2025

Brett ("Bertie") Langston, age 66, passed away September 4, 2025. Brett attended Point Place Grade School, St Francis de Sales High School, and earned his degree in Business at the University of Toledo.

His work life included The Kroger Company and his dream job at the Toledo Fire Department, where he was employed for over 31 years.

Brett was an avid golfer, an all-sports enthusiast (especially his Ohio State Buckeyes), a car-guy, a huge fan of rock music, and was adept at fixing and organizing things. The Brett you might not know: Huge animal lover who cared for his hummingbirds, wrens and dogs as well as so many other creatures which gravitated to him that his family teasingly called him "St. Francis." He also tended to his flowers and was known to attend plays/musicals occasionally (although he won't admit that to his golf buddies!).

Brett thoroughly enjoyed his Firefighter brotherhood and working with the great men and women of the TFD. Most days, he was at Station 17 or "The Shop." Brett loved his creative and unique sons and was a proud pappa.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Chuck; brother-in-law, Tom Brazzill; and in-laws, Ellie and Bud Brazzill. Brett is survived by his beloved mother, Barbara Langston; son, Andrew (fiancé Danielle Portteus), son, Keith; and Brett's wife of 39 years, Linda. He also leaves behind cousins and four sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Firefighter Last Alarm service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at The Historic Church of Saint Patrick, 130 Avondale, Toledo, OH, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Burial is private.

Memorial contributions are suggested to either The Toledo Firefighters Museum, 918 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, 43612; The Toledo Humane Society, 827 Illinois Ave, Maumee, OH 43537; or The Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale Ave, Toledo, OH 43604.

Yesterday

Brett was my best friend when we were about 4 - 5 years old growing up on Globe street in Toledo before they moved to Pointe Place. We did everything together. Riding bikes and playing army in his back yard. I visited him about 25 years ago when he lived near the Anthony Wayne trail. He was a fine man. Saddened for the loss for all his family and close friends.

So sorry to hear this, and especially your loss! I was one of Brett´s training officers when he went through the Tower! Great Guy, never had the privilege of working with him on the line but heard great stories about him! He was very proud of working at 17´s as were a lot of us and that alone made him special! Rest in peace Brother, see you at the "Big one", in Heaven!

Dear Langston Family, I am so sorry to hear about Brett`s passing. I grew up in Point Place and he was one of my very good friends at Kleis Grade School and then Point Place junior high. I moved away from the area in 1977 and never spoke with him again. I know Denise Jones is his cousin and was also a friend while I lived in Point Place. I pray for God`s grace, love, and mercy, as you go through this season of loss and pain. Much love, Tina Metzger Marshall.

Brett grew up down the street from us in Point Place, was part of my brothers´ group of friends cruising the neighborhood on their bikes from early age on. I always smile when I think of Brett with the others in our basement smoking cigarettes, playing cards and listening to Black Sabbath!! Hope your good life continues in the spirit world, Brett!
