Polar Sea Moving on...

We were fortunate to make it up to Michigan to attend Jerry's funeral service and see and meet all of the people that were there. We were overwhelmed but not surprised to see all of the support from all of the lives that Jerry has always continued to touch! If everyone could just "pay it forward" the way Jerry did; the world would be a much better place. The service is over, the bar has been crossed but PLEASE don't forget that Margie still needs our support.

I met Jerry while at TRACEN Petaluma just a few months before I met my georgous wife Doreen, his daughter. She misses her dad greatly.

I met Jerry when we were on the Precom Crew of the CGC Polar Sea in 1976. From that time until his assignment in Washington DC we kept in touch with each other off and on. He was a great friend and a mentor. Margie,I know the loss your family must feel at this time as I have just lost my spouse of 50 years 4 months ago. The loneliness will continue for a while, but eventually it will get easier. I believe he is still here with you in spirit and you will be together again. May the Lord comfort you at this time.

Jerry made everything look easy, and fun. What a great, if slightly twisted, joy in life he had! I missed him when he left 911, I miss him more now. My best to his family, thanks for sharing him with us!

I first met Jerry when we commuted together from Petaluma to Government Island Alameda, CA circa 82-83. A fine gentleman with a keen sense of humor. When he and Margie were in Ecuador he would write of his experiences there. A most impressive writer. He was a talented fellow in many different fields. Our condolences to Margie. Jerry will be missed by all of his shipmates and friends..
We'll see you at the next port of call my friend.. Take a break Master Chief, we've got the watch.

I don't remember who first wrote this but I thought it would be appropriate.

"Master Chief stood the watch these past years so that We, our Families and our Fellow Countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, each and every night.
Master Chief.....the watch stands relieved.
Relieved by those you have trained, guided and led.
Master Chief, you stand relieved....we have the watch..."

Jerry's dry - and sly - sense of humor always tickled me. He was a man who had lived a full life by the time he came to our 9-1-1 center, and his life experiences made him someone to seek guidance from, to confer with and to learn from. I am so glad to read he continued "filling up his life" after he left Seattle! My sympathy to his wife and family.

Margie, I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. He was a good friend and a big help to me as a rookie 911 operator. I know we all will miss his great sense of humor and dry wit. Good bye Master Chief, your watch is now with the Lord.

I too remember Jerry's sense of humor; especially when he was trying to train me as a dispatcher. He was always able to see the humor in the calls that he dispatched. He was a pleasure to work with and was a great person to have at your back. He wlll be missed by all that knew him.

I remember Jerry fondly when I first started with the KCSO 911 Communications Center, I always marveled at his grace under pressure, a true professional that the Officers all knew they were in good hands when he was dispatching on the radio. Jerry was a great guy, marvelous sense of humor...his KCSO Family salutes him!

Margie,
I was deeply saddened to hear that Jerry passed away. I only wish we hadn't lost touch over the years. Had I known that you retired in the Toledo area, I could have visited when I was home visiting family in Perrysburg. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May the Good Lord comfort you during this trying and sorrowful time.
