Lester E. Brubaker

Lester E. Brubaker, 92, of Latrobe, formerly of the Apollo area, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, in Latrobe Care Center, Latrobe. Born March 8, 1922, in North Apollo, he was the son of the late Emmett and Gertrude "Mae" (Hartman) Brubaker. Lester lived in Latrobe for the last 16 years after moving from Apollo. He served our country with the United States Army during World War II. Lester worked as a steelworker for Allegheny Ludlum in Leechburg for more than 40 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Community Church of Pine Run. Lester was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping and fishing. He was an excellent woodworker, and even worked for a time building homes. Lester loved hanging out with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randy Brubaker; daughter, B. Dianne (Eckman) Lehman; brothers, Leland, Carl and Vernon Brubaker; and sisters, Edna Parsons, Effie Altman, Dorothy Strunk, Norma Jean Ransom and Virginia Bojtor. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Grace L. (Shick) Brubaker; daughters, Maxine (David) Weaver, of Latrobe, Linda Bradish, of Arizona; son, Terry Brubaker, of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Hallard Brubaker, of St. Charles, Ill.; sisters, Alice Shelenburger, of Meadville, and Orvetta Mellinger, of McPherson, Kan.; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave, Apollo. Additional visitation takes place from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, in the funeral home with Pastor Joshua Strunk, officiating. Following the service, military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
