Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2013.
George F. Braunegg, 86, of Charleroi, died on Monday, June 3, 2013, in his home surrounded by loved ones after a lengthy illness. A lifelong Charleroi resident, he was born on Sept. 18, 1926, the son of the late Richard and Catherine Veltjens Braunegg. He was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church and after his graduation from Charleroi High School he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. George was a pipefitter by trade and worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport, for over 30 years until his retirement in 1989. George was an avid hunter, fisherman and bee keeper, but his real passion was gardening. He enjoyed his nearly 25 years of retirement taking care of his house, yard and garden. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn Gwyer Braunegg; sons, George Braunegg, and wife, Janet, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas Braunegg and wife, Roseann, of Cortland, Ohio; daughter, Kathleen Braunegg of South Park; grandchildren, Michael, George, Katelyn, and Rachel Braunegg; brother, Hubert Braunegg and wife, Susan, of Charleroi; sister-in-law, Agnes Braunegg of Charleroi; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Carl; twin brother, Paul; and sister, Gertrude Tinney. Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi, celebrated by the Rev. Gerald Mikonis. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions be sent to Mary, Mother of the Church, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022.
