Douglas Gant Obituary

Douglas William Gant February 23, 1942 July 11, 2019 The Gant family lost its beloved husband, father, and grandfather on July 11th while crabbing at Hood Canaldoing what he loved in a place he cherished. Doug was born in Modesto, CA in 1942 to Denver and Gertrude. He attended college at the University of the Pacific and then served as a pharmacist in the Public Health Service. He eventually made his way to Washington, where he met Colleen Kunz. He was a proud graduate of the UW Medical School and practiced medicine for 30 years as an OB/GYN in Puyallup, delivering over 5,000 babies. He was devoted to his patients and delighted to bring so many souls into this world. Doug loved life and was a dedicated friend, active skier, bicyclist, avid forager, and proud provider and benefactor. All of his family and friends reaped the benefits of his keen eye, thoughtful generosity, and industrious dedication to living life full throttle. He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen, who joined him on his many world travels and culinary expeditions. He also leaves behind children Denver (Emily), Dylan (Nicole), Marisa, and Hannah, and grandchildren Marin, Nora, Grayson, and Emery, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of his life will occur on August 18th from 2 - 5pm at the Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup at 330 S. Meridian. Thank you to the many special friends for all the love and support. Doug touched many people's lives. His gregarious spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Contributions in his name can be made to the UW Medical School.

Dr Gant was a great guy. He went to bat for me when another dr refused to do anything when my son was in danger during labor. He went on to help in delivering my youngest son via c-section. He was a funny guy. I remember before I was out he said "Oh, so should we start now?" Knowing that I was still awake and looking up at him. He laughed when I said, "NO!" lol. I'm so sorry to find his obituary. I've always had good memories of him.

Dr. Gant was so special to my family. He not only delivered myself and two younger sisters, but he also delivered my twins when I was pregnant. He gave us all life! He wasn't just our family doctor, he was a family friend. He had such whit and a tell it like it is personality, he always made me feel at ease when in his presence. I'm saddened to just now learn of his passing and my condolences go out to his family. He was a top notch man, and he will be greatly missed. Prayers to his wife and children.

Dear Colleen and Family,
Nick and I are deeply saddened and shocked about the untimely loss of Doug.
Nick started practice at the Puyallup Clinic in July 1975, Doug can shortly after that. Doug was there
when our youngest daughter was born and again when her oldest son was born. We do feel a family-like
connection and now a great loss. I'll always remember his cheerful countenance and smiling face.

Nick and offer condolences to Colleen for the immense loss of her soul mate and biking partner. The bridge
of your love is eternal.

With Sympathy,
Joanne Iverson

Colleen, I was so sad to hear about Dr Gant's death. He was such a fixture in my department at Good Sam. We worked together over the years and I enjoyed his humor, dedication, and loyalty to his patients. They always came first. I can still hear his greeting when he called..."Douglas Gant here!" He will be sorely missed. My son was a friend of your daughters at Bellarmine, and he extends his sympathies as well.
