Barbara N. Szcygiel, age 78, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, following a period of declining health. Barb was born October 28, 1931 in Caro, the daughter of the late Vincent & Anna (Rochowiak) Sochocki. She was united in marriage with Joseph Szcygiel on September 7, 1955 and the couple lived in Vassar until making their home in Caro in 1959. Barb and Joe began Szcygiel's Plant Farm in 1961 and have continued to operate it since. Barb was a former member of the Polish American Club in Caro and enjoyed animals of all kinds, especially her cats. She will be remembered as a loving grandmother and hard worker that had a knack for making flowers grow. She also enjoyed fishing and watching baseball games. Barb is survived by her loving husband of more than fifty-five years, Joseph Szcygiel of Caro; five children and their spouses, Joey Szcygiel and his fiancé, Patty Welch, of Caro, Teri Szcygiel and her fiancé, Dan Malkowski, of Mayville, Tony & Susan Szcygiel of Kingston, Linda & Jacob Caldwell of Millington, Bonnie Cooper of St. Petersburg, Florida; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Mary Kusek of Caro, Florence Zyrowski of Dearborn, Ann Zyrowski of Chesaning, Stella Smith of Milan; her Godchild, Margie Sylvester and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Barb was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Szcygiel; two brothers and two sisters, Raymond and William Sochocki, Frances Rusnaczyk and Rosie Ciecora.
