Carmela R. Soderburg

Carmela (Russo) Soderburg, 95, lifelong resident of Bloomfield and beloved wife for 33 years of the late Kenneth James Soderburg, passed away at her home on Monday, August 7, 2017. Born in Hartford on December 23, 1921, daughter of the late Saverio and Mary (Juno) Russo she was raised in Bloomfield, a graduate of Bloomfield High School and a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She worked for 20 years as an accountant at the Hartford Cement Company followed by being a partner for 25 years in the Soderburg Fire Equipment Company. During World War II, she also supported our countries efforts as a treasurer of the former Kelly Tavener Auxiliary post. Carmela had a method of communicating that supported building mutual respect and relationships. The reinforcement of these relationships was evident when visiting her at home. An intended brief visit would often be followed by her cooking for you at a moment’s notice. These meals would sometimes include her subtle humor and admiration for practical jokes. Regardless of the occasion or reason for the visit, she listened, made you feel welcome and important to her. Carmela leaves a daughter, Sandra Soderburg Braun and her husband Patrick Braun of Bloomfield; a son Paul Soderburg and his wife Colette Soderburg of South Windsor; a sister Phyllis Eger of Florida; a granddaughter Jennifer Mary Braun and her fiancé John McGuire of Bloomfield. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a sister Carmella Mariotti and three brothers Martin Serignese, Rocco Russo and Anthony Russo. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4 -7 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church 26 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
