Linda,
As I skimmed the paper this past week, a name jumped off the page. Though I really didn't have any contact with your parents, I has heard much about their influence through our mutual friend, Cheryl Clifford Pitre. She always spoke glowingly of them and having met you, reading his many accomplishments, I can see where you get your character. Having lost my father a few years ago, I know the pain and loss that you are feeling right now. Unfortunately, it never really goes away. But, like you, having a father of such faith and character, we were blessed with much to draw from to guide us in their absence. May God comfort you and bring you the peace of His love.

I worked with Dr. D'Appolonia on his dialogues for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) conventions and memoirs for circulation to ASCE and Carnegie University while I was employed at D'Appolonia. He was such a wonderful man. I enjoyed my conversations with him and appreciated all of his knowledge and kindness he showed towards me. Please accept my condolences and prayers for all of his family. He will truly be missed.

I will always remember working for D'App at 10 Duff road and running up 5 flights of stairs with him. Thanks D'app for all your mentoring. My condolences to his family,

I worked for D'App from 1969 to 1977. His firm was an exciting place to be for a young Geotechnical Engineer. I have always been proud to say that I knew him and was associated with his Engineering Firm.

D'App influenced my life with his kindness and zeal for problem-solving. When I had an immigration problem, he intervened and it is because of that I am in this country today. When I was unemployed, he is the only person I know who actively looked for an engagament for me.
He also agreed to lead an investigation requested by IT only if IT would free me to work on it. I was honored. Our controversial solution turned out to be correct after field verification.
I will not forget him and cherish my association with him for the rest of my life.

Mark,
So sorry to hear of the passing of your father.
Just a few nights ago, after saying my prayers, my mind started racing as it normally does. For some unknown reason, there I was, spelling out your last name, almost outloud,in the dark.
Throughout the years that I worked for the firm,I put that name on a lot of paper, and when asked who I was with..
I was always very proud to say D'APPOLONIA! What a "class act"

Not only did Dr. D'Appolonia positively influenced *legions* of engineers, he was a man of outstanding character: truly a role model for all generations. May he rest in peace and his family find comfort in the wealth of memories they shared.

So sad to hear of the passing of Dapp. My family thought of him as an uncle instead of a family friend My parents Bill and Irene Donovan were friends with the D'Appolonia's for over 55 years. Many social occasions were held at their house: picnics, New Years Eve parties, masses, anniversaries, baptisms, and my own wedding shower. Many intelligent conversations were held with him and my husband Fred, he was always interested in what Fred was doing in the computer field. You memory will always stay with us.

I was a student of Dr. D'APPOLONIA from 1950-52, and found him to be an exemplary purveyor of both theoretical and practical knowledge. Further, I worked for him on some of his outside consulting projects while I was still a student and he a professor.
I consider both my learning and employment experiences to have been instrumental to my successful professional career, and been always grateful to him for them.
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all

D'App balanced high energy with a calming nature, risk taking with thoughtful analysis and mentored many while demanding quality always. His influence will long remain.

Mike (and extended family): It was with bittersweet sadness that I just learned of the passing of your Family's Patriarch. An avatar of curiosity, grace and humility, I will long remember him with fondness.

On behalf of the entire Civil and Environmental Engineering community of alums, students, faculty, and staff at Carnegie Mellon University, I express our heartfelt condolences to the entire D'Appolonia Family. Dr. D'Appolonia was a colleague, mentor, and friend to many generations of faculty and students at Carnegie Mellon. He had a large positive impact on our department, the university, and our region.
