Hans Schwebler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2019.
Hans Schwebler of Bethel, CT, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2019 after a courageous, five-year, battle with cancer. In his younger years, he was active in many activities such as Taekwondo, scuba diving, and boating. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed all that nature offered. He began his life long career in his father's business, Wood Reproduction Studio. Hans learned the art of wood carving and furniture making from his father, Master Sculptor Christian Schwebler. As he moved through his training, he became accomplished and worked on museum pieces and eventually completed masterworks for the Smithsonian Institute. Hans loved his family and joins his mother and father, grandparents and many other relatives that have passed over. He will be missed by his brother Gerhard Schwebler, sisters Heidi Linnell and Christine Schwebler Visuano, In-laws Patty Schwebler and John Visuano, Nephews and Nieces, Christian, Mike and Elise Schwebler, Hannah and Jane Linnell, Sabina and Mia Visuano, and extended family in Germany, the Müllers and Brauchlers. The family also wants to thank and acknowledge the friends that loved and supported Hans through his illness, James Scalzo, Robert Pomfret, Todd Britton, and many more. A celebration of life will be held in spring.

Just seeing this in 2024. Hans, I really enjoyed our brief friendship circa 1983. We hit it off instantly, and conversation flowed so easily, across the various topics that we were both passionate about.

Remember when we'd rise early enough to drive from Bethel to Kent, and be on top of Cobble Mountain in Macedonia for dawn breaking over the ridge? We must have done that half a dozen times or more.

I don't think I've risen that early since.

Your family was so nice to me - your mom invited me to a wonderful dinner, and I think your sister even agreed to go out with me once, after I nervously asked you if that would be OK.

Best to all the family, I'm sure you're missing Hans so much. He was one of the good ones.

Saddened to learn of your early passing Hans, was nice to see you in 2015. Had hopes you'd come for a winter respite in San Diego, but you can't beat being in Heaven.

I miss you Uncle Hans. You were always someone I could count on to make me laugh and you always understood with no judgement; no matter the situation. You were an easy spirit and talking to you and learning about our common interests is something Ill always cherish. From boat days on the lake to just hanging out at the shop while you worked, I am grateful to have spent the time with you that I did. You were brave,
courageous and always kept your sense of humor; these last years were really a testament to that. Im grateful to have spent the last hours by your side. I find peace that you are no longer suffering, and I believe youre sitting next to Oma and Opa in the sun. I love you, I miss you.

Hans, I miss you. You were a good big brother, and we shared a lot of laughs along the way. I know you fought a good battle, and did it like a courageous trooper. I miss your easy going way. You enjoyed the simple things in life family, friends, home, and good music. You loved being outdoors, and of course provided a good home to your beloved dogs over the years -Peter, Max, and Oliver.
You were not only my brother, but my friend. You were a modest man, and never believed me when I would say, "Hey Hans, that girl is checking you out." your response would always be, "No, she's not."
You were a talented woodworker, and enjoyed working at the shop with Dad all those years, and created many beautiful pieces. I will never forget when you and Dad surprised Christine and myself for Christmas with the beautiful hope chests engraved with our initials. I love you always and will miss all those great stories. As you might fondly call it, "just shooting the breeze."

I"m so sorry to learn of your passing Hans. I've treasured the antique frame you repaired for me and were blessed to spend time with you and your family many years ago. Remembering fondly our trip to the Maine coast and your mother's chicken paprikash and spaetzel. Rest in Peace. My deepest sympathies to the Schwebler family.

I knew Hans, only through my son- in- law, Bob Pomfret. I met him once at their wedding. But I knew him to be a talented wood worker and a gentleman. May he be at Peace and pain free! Much love and prayers to his family and friends.

My love always to my best friend. You showed the world your courage and compassion for others especially in these last years. You courageously fought against this awful disease all the while encouraging others and letting them use your strength to fight their fight also. You spoke up for those who were mistreated and lent your voice to those who needed strength, God watched over you 4 years longer than the Doctors gave you so you may share and encourage others. Now is your time for rest from all that you endured. Be with Mom and Vater. Im sure they welcomed you with open arms and a large Ice Coffee. Ive loved you for over 45 years. You are a great friend and brother. Rest easy Hans and know youve touched many hearts.

God bless Hans and his family and friends. Hans fought a very courageous fight strengthened by all those whom loved him. He is in a better place. I can imagine his father and mother welcoming him in the hereafter, giving him comfort, letting him know all will be fine and of the wonders they will share forever. Be at peace, Hans.
I remember the college trip we took to Greece. We had a great time with lots of laughs. Also the trips we took to Washington D.C.(Heidi and Lisa) and to Cape Cod(Gerhard). I still carry the money clip Hans gave me so many years ago for Christmas and I have some of his beautiful workmanship hanging on my wall. I know my sister had a heirloom and other pieces of furniture repaired by Hans over the years. His artisanship will be missed greatly.
