Judith Burnstein Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Cypress on Feb. 8, 2023.
Judith (Judy) Ann Burnstein passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Anaheim, CA. She was born on September 1, 1941, in Maryville, MO to Charles and LaVena Hartsough. Charles was an engineer, and his job allowed the family to relocate to Arizona, California, Missouri, and back to California throughout Judy's childhood. Among her favorite places to live was Neosho, MO, where Judy went to high school. She often spoke fondly of her time there and always went back for high school reunions. In fact, she recently attended her 62nd high school reunion, with her son Norman, this past October. She had an amazing time and was already talking about returning for her 65th reunion in 2025. After graduation, her family returned to California. She was working in Los Angeles when she met Alan Burnstein. They married in 1966 and had three children, Norman, Kristen, and Chara. Judy and Alan enjoyed traveling and loved going to Las Vegas, where they got to see some of their favorite performers like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. With their children, they took cruises, weekend trips to Palm Springs, and vacations to Hawaii. After her divorce from Alan, she went back to work as an administrative assistant and married Ken Keirle. Judy and Ken enjoyed going to antique shows, shopping, traveling to England (to visit Ken's children and grandchildren), and taking river cruises. She had a passion for dancing, and anything related to the 1950's and early 1960's. Her favorite musicians were Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, and Elvis Presley. She loved animals, donated to numerous animal charities, often brought blankets and food to animal shelters, and always had at least two dogs living at home with her. She is survived by Alan (ex-husband and best friend); son Norman and her daughter in law, Alicia; daughter Kristen and her son in law, Craig; daughter Chara; dog Guido; and grand dogs Chloe and Max. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; and parents Charles and LaVena. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn in Cypress, California on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local animal shelters.

Judy was my maid of honor. I always hoped we’d reconnect some day. She was a very special friend during our days at Cerritos College. I’m glad she had a rich life. Peace to her family.

I knew Judy for most of my life. I will always remember her sitting in the dining room and drinking her tea (often with a dog she was petting by her side) when I walked through the door. She was smart and feisty and fun and I will miss her. I especially liked her because she was short like me but it was definitely more than that. She was a staple of my childhood and I will miss her great laugh and spunkiness. God be with you til we meet again!
