I was always impressed by Norm's dignafied demeanor at every labor event he attended. I remember him almost always in jacket and tie. It was unmistakable that he was a respected leader and he demonstrated that fact in appearance, deeds, and actions. Working families, those less fortunate, and those most vunerable among us have lost a champion. It was my honor to know him and my condolances go out to his family.

I have known Norm for only a dozen years, but I could not help but admire him. He was a constant volunteer for the Iowa Democratic Party, and a fixture at First District Central Committee meetings and events. Often, he helped out with making sure the sound system was top notch and that proceedings were not getting bogged down by the paralysis of analysis. Over the years, I became more familiar with Norm's wry sense of humor and his expert storytelling. Also, I greatly appreciated his encouragement of me as I became increasingly involved in Party goings-on. A person of few words, Norm could always be counted on to share a cogent perspective at the right time. I am thankful to have known him. May he rest In peace.

Norm was a great Democrat, a great union brother, and a great friend. He will be missed by many!
