Ruby D. Vipler

Ruby D. Vipler, of West Hartford, beloved wife of Ed Vipler, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Boston, MA, the daughter of Morris and Marion (Beigelman) Duby, she graduated from Boston University. After getting married she and Ed moved to Connecticut to start a family in Windsor Locks and later moved to West Hartford. Throughout her career, Ruby did many different things including working as a substitute teacher, tutor, and program director for Junior Achievement and the Girl Scouts. In retirement, she continued to work part-time as a food sampler in local stores. Ruby was an avid volunteer, serving for years with the Greater Hartford Open and the Bushnell Theater. She was also an active member of the West Hartford League of Women Voters. Ruby had a lifelong love of music and art. She sang with choirs and performed in many plays. She and Ed traveled extensively and enjoyed happy hour with their friends. Ruby especially loved time spent with her family and watching her grandchildren's games and performances. Besides Ed, Ruby leaves two daughters, Randi Hewitt, her husband Andrew and their children Travis and Olivia of South Windsor, and Nanci Stolgitis and her husband Mike and their children Ryan, Kevin, and Kendall of Manchester. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Tom Rogers of Waltham, MA. At Ruby's request graveside services were held in private at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. She would like to thank everyone who called, visited and helped support her through her recent illnesses.
