John was a good solid man. I remember his quick smile and easy-going ways. Cheryl (my wife) played Clarinet with John and remembers his just-be-friends approach. Too soon gone, sadly.

We are so sad to hear of John's sudden passing. Our family was blessed in many ways during their years at Fridley High School, John was a good man, a role model for his students. I also enjoyed John's mentoring during the years on the School Board, he will be missed. He was a funny "John Deere" at a High School pep fest!

I just heard about the death of John and feel so bad. He was principal when both my daughters attended Fridley High School. I was the president of the Parent Advisory Committee one of those years and he was such a help to me when my husband died that year.John always knew what to say to parents to calm them down or give a pep talk. Sandy, you and all his family are in my prayers. It's very hard when good people die way to young.

I think I am still in the state of shock. When John came to MHS I welcomed him with a case of wine for his birthday and I certainly expected to him to enjoy many more birthdays as well as glasses of wine. His calming presence will certainly be missed in this world. He was a great mentor, a truly wonderful listener and a joyous friend. My condolences to his family.

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
John has touched so many lives he will be missed.

Terribly saddened to hear of John's passing. He was one of the truly great men among us. I valued him as a friend, a mentor and consul. Early in my administrative career he was my "go to person" and shared many sage bits of advice that I still follow 25 years later. His intellect, sense of humor and relaxed manner highlighted every interaction with him. My condolences to Sandy, his children and the many others he touched. Rest in Peace old friend!

John was a wonderful, caring, kindhearted man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a great educator and principal, and I loved working with him. I also enjoyed our many book talks and have read many a book that he recommended. I will miss him, and the world is a little dimmer without his big smile.

John was a wise mentor to so many of us and such a delightful friend. Many lunch periods were filled with laughter, book discussions, the solving of world issues and so on. We discovered we were born just a few miles apart in rural Nebraska and loved rooting for the Huskers. His passing leaves a very large void in our world; we were the richer for having known him.
