John Showah Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Williamsburg- John Habib Showah, 65, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2017. John will be remembered for his selflessness, love of family and passion for his craft. John was a master jeweler and goldsmith beginning his life and career in Beirut, Lebanon before immigrating to the United States in 1976. After over a decade in New York's wholesale jewelry exchange, he and his family moved to Williamsburg, Virginia in a transition to crafting in a retail setting. In 2008, John took his 40 years of end-to-end experience in the jewelry business and opened his own store, Johnstown Jewelers. John earned the trust of his community with his signature candor, creativity and craftsmanship. John's story illustrates the self-determination, hard work and sacrifice of the great American Dream. A diamond in the rough, he will be sorely missed. Preceding him in death are his father Habib Showah; mother Nasra Showah; and brother Michael Showah. He is survived by his brother George; sisters Mary and Georgette; wife Moona; daughter Randa; son-in-law Robert; and sons Ronnie and Robert. A memorial service honoring John's life will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Williamsburg Christian Church at 200 John Tyler Lane in Williamsburg, Virginia, 23185. The service will begin at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, individuals are kindly asked to please make donations in John's name made to the Williamsburg Christian Church.

I am a customer who was always impressed by John's competence and honesty. Though I came to the shop more often for repairs or advice than to make a purchase, I was always treated with kindness and respect. What a lovely man! He will be missed.

It is hard to find the words to describe the loss Bev and I felt when we read of John's passing. Even though we have only known John for a few years, to know John was to love him. You did not have to engage him for long to discover his depth of character. A selfless unwavering love for his family and extended family, for others and for his work threaded its way through every conversation we ever had. How we will miss you John - your smile, your jokes, the twinkle in your eye, your transparency, your wisdom, your kindness. Thanks John for sharing yourself with us and for showing us all what is true, good and everlasting.

Mona and family what a shock to open the paper this AM to read the sad news about Johns passing. I will always cherish the advise and the lovely pieces of jewelry he created for me over the years since he arrived in Williamsburg and I got to know him in town, the Kingsmill Shops and finally at his own lovely store. I know how proud he was of his family, especially Mona. I shall miss going by to see him and enjoy our chats over the years.

I am very saddened to hear of Mr. Showah's passing. When my husband Varujan, also a Williamsburg jeweler and a neighbor of Johnstown Jewelers, passed away in October, just 6 months ago, Mr. Showah and his family were the epitome of compassion and sympathy. My family and I offer our prayers at this sad loss.May he rest in peace.

We are so saddened to hear of John's passing. John was one of those special people you come across in life that leaves you feeling so grateful just to have known them. What an amazing life and man. He was so proud of his family and always bragged about his wife and what an amazing cook she is. Our sympathy and love to the entire family.
