I loved the way John talked about Maxine with that twinkle in his eye. I told him once that he would be with her someday. He said, "I don't think I want to wait that long." Well in the short time that I have been privileged to know John I realize he was a very strong determined man who usually accomplished his goals. You leave behind a legacy in your children who obviously learned from you to treat people with honor and respect. You did good. "You ran a good race." Now fly free, John with your beloved Maxine where the cotton grows bigger and cleaner than the best crop you ever harvested!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
