One year has gone by today....Still missing my visits with my Favorite Client Ever, the Fabulous Bonnie !! Missing you lots, Jim at Axiom

Bonnie was a dedicated nurse, who poured her heart and soul into patient care. The perfect role model for post-graduate nursing students, she orgamized the patients, the nurses and we doctors into a cohesive team.
One of the legendary "Willow Chest" nurses, from that stimulating time in that crowded space, she always had time for you when you needed a shoulder to lean on - or - when you needed a swift kick to get you smsrtened up.
The loss of Bonnie creates a huge gap in Cardiac nursing in BC.
My sincere condolences to her family, and to her many friends.
Lawrence Burr, MD, Retired Cardic Surgery, VGH.

In 1957, the pioneers developing Open Heart Surgery performed BC's first Open Heart at VGH. We always remember that the success of the programme was largely based on the outstanding post-surgical nursing care, without which the expanding programme in the 1970's could have easily failed. To her family, a retired member of the VGH team would like to express condolences for the loss of a wonderful nurse, Bonnie Cart

Just heard of Bonnie's passing and the news saddens me deeply. Having worked together in CSICU back in the 1990s, she truly was the heart of the unit. She always offered a smile, was a resource, supportive of staff and caring of all.She was not just a good nurse, but a good person. When I visited the unit after I'd left working there, she'd always had a warm hello. She will be remembered in kind and missed.

To Bonnie's Family,
Your beloved Bonnie was an inspiration to me. In a demanding job she carried great responsibilities. But here was a woman whose humanity, decency and profound respect for others totally regardless to their station and circumstance always shone through. Alas I had the pleasure of working on her team for only a short few years.

Bonnie was an inspiration to me in my nursing career. I fondly recall my employment in the CSICU and commend Bonnie for where I am now-she truly is a loss to the medical and nursing community. I will sadly miss her.
Great memories of your laugh and happiness Bonnie!!

I was extremely saddened to hear about Bonnie. We worked together in the CV-ICU in Willow Chest in the late 1980s. She practiced excellence in nursing and was a joy to work with.
It was just a few years ago when I was spending time up on the Sunshine Coast and her name came up - with fond memories of a very special person and fellow VGH grad.
My condolences go out to her family at this time of sorrow.

Dear Nan and the Cart family,
Thinking of all of you as I reflect on all that Bonnie meant to so many people, including Bill and I. The service was a moving tribute to a wonderful person.

I had the pleasure of working with Bonnie at the VGH WCICU from 1983-1986. She was a skilled, compassionate nurse and I was blessed we became good friends. Although we lost touch over the years, I will forever have wonderful memories of Bonnie. My heart felt condolences to the family. Brigitte McDonough (nee Ebert)

I left VGH 6 years ago for an opportunity in Fraser Health, when I returned to VGH 5 years later Bonnie made sure to seek me out and welcome me back. She stopped by to drop off, well, lip gloss...because if I was coming back to VGH I was going to have to make sure to apply my lip gloss to be taken seriously! She really went out of her way to make me feel welcome, to connect with me and find out what was happening in my life and the lives of those we knew in common. Always caring, always reaching out and touching peoples lives...that is Bonnie. I still have the lip gloss, and do apply it generously!

I still expect to bump into Bonnie on my daily travels through VGH. I always enjoyed our upbeat hallway chats. I believe David Ostro was on to something regarding certain individuals who carry a world of good on their shoulders. Bonnie was surely one of the 36.
I have worked with Bonnie for 27 years. One fond memory comes to mind. This particular day I presented Bonnie with a picture of our Perfusion Team meeting one of our youngest ECMO survivors months after discharge. Unexpectantly Bonnie started to cry. I asked Bon why she was crying? She exclaimed "I'm just so proud of all you guys!"
I'm so gratiful that our paths in life crossed.
I miss her dearly.

Dear Bon,
I still remember Bonnie in starchy whites (early 80s) coming down the hall of WCTU, doing blood gasses, ECG, whatever. No one exuded total nursing competence as well as Bonnie!
And at work no one could ever make me feel as instantly uplifted as you could do; just running into you in the hallway would set me up for the day. When I proclaimed our long-time, (platonic, of course) love in front of hall-full of folks as we received or 30-year pins from Anne, your affirming "shout-out" made my year!
You left so much that is so good, and you shall inspire us to be better.
Love Always,
Graham

Sylvia and family, my thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Bonnie and I met a number of years ago as we began our positions as Patient Services Managers at VGH. Our bond was instant as we supported one another, laughed, cried and faced the daily challenges presented.
I was fortunate to attend "Harvard University" with Bonnie. This was the beginning of many journeys to New York City. I cannot imagine I will ever again experience the adventure and hilarity that only Bonnie could bring to a situation.
I feel blessed to have known Bonnie and will miss her compassion, friendship, and kindness for the rest of my days.
