Charles Petersen Obituary

Charles E. Petersen, 76, died on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his home in Thousand Oaks, surrounded by his loving family: wife Beverly and children Christine Lonto, Charles, Lisa Rank, their spouses, eight grandchildren, and his sisters, Jane Olsen and Hope Foley.

Charlie was born on May 1st, 1933, in Flushing, New York, to Charles and Dagmar Petersen. He attended Stuyvesant High School, a prestigious technical high school in New York City. He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956 and was discharged as an electronics tech, second class. He then went to City College of New York where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Charlie and Beverly married on May 31, 1958, at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Flushing, New York.

After their daughters birth in 1960, Charlie graduated and accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft. They moved to Fullerton California where they had two more children. In 1971 they moved to Thousand Oaks while he was working at Point Mugu Naval Air Base. While keeping their home in Thousand Oaks, the family lived for a time (1975-1977) in Tehran and Isfahan, Iran, for a Hughes Aircraft contract with that country. He also worked for a time at the El Segundo and Canoga Park offices. Charles retired from Hughes in December 1989.

Charlie loved his family, God and his church. He traveled, enjoyed golf, singing and fellowship with others. He was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2004 and died of related complications. His family thanks the staff at the Reminiscence Care unit of Sunrise in Westlake Village for taking such loving care of him in his last months.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at St. Patricks Episcopal Church, One Church Road, Thousand Oaks.
