(1936 - 2011) Shelby Grant Everett passed away June 25, 2011, at the age of 74 from a sudden brain aneurysm.

Shelby was born in Oklahoma on Oct. 19, 1936, the daughter of Lawrence and Mae Thompson. After graduating from Oklahoma University, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She successfully became a contract player for 20th Century Fox and appeared in such classic films as the Fantastic Voyage (1966), Our Man Flint (1966), The Witchmaker (1969), and the Pleasure Seekers (1964). Shelby also had a long list of independent TV appearances on top rated shows like Marcus Welby, M.D., Batman, Bonanza, and multiple appearances on her husband Chad Everett's series Medical Center.

Shelby married actor Chad Everett on May 22, 1966, in Tucson, Ariz., while he was on location filming Return of The Gunfighter. Their daughters, Kate Thorp and Shannon Everett, graduated and attended San Diego State University and University Santa Barbara respectively. Shelby and Chad enjoyed a life of sport and philanthropy together.

Shelby played a mean game of tennis and equally fierce game of Bridge. She was very athletic and enjoyed Pilates, healthy food, and a nice Chardonnay. Shelby has been instrumental in the efforts to provide resources to US Soldiers and for saving the lives of children. Her relentless efforts allowed these children to receive life saving surgeries through the Gift of Life and Loma Linda Hospital. Chad and Shelby have personally sponsored more than 20 heart surgeries for needy children through The Gift of Life. Shelby and Chad recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.

Shelby is survived by her husband, Chad Everett; her daughters, Katherine Thorp, from San Rafael, Calif., and Shannon Everett, from Carlsbad, Calif.; her brother, James L. Thompson, from Chula Vista, Calif. Shelby had six grandchildren, Lauren Thorp, Connor Thorp, and Zachary Thorp, all from San Rafael, Calif., and Tosh Everett, Faith Everett, and Dawson Everett, all residing in Carlsbad, Calif. Shelby's ashes are with her family in Westlake Village.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to The Gift of Life, 475 Northern Blvd, Suite 22, Great Neck, NY 11021. A private memorial will be held in Westlake Village to celebrate Shelby's life and memory on Saturday, July 2, 2011.

It's hard to believe it has been 8 years since that fateful day when the world changed for the family and for us fans as well. Though she has gone, Shelby is not forgotten and will continue to be remembered by all of us until it is our time to leave this earth. May she, and Chad, continue to sleep in eternal peace. Love always.

To the Everett Family,
May you all know that your parents touched everyone they met in life. That's a gift that most people don't have. Now they have passed that gift on to you.

From one of my favorite medical center episodes, I still remember the note Gannon read at the end of the show.
"Like the moon in the blue heavens, I am alone in my room I have put out the light and I am weeping. I weep because you are so far away and you will never know how much I really love you". I was 13 years old and just loved the show. Your dad and mom were a wonderful inspiration to many. Thank you

I drove my car with Shannon and her sister and went to see children movies near your house.
I used to have interesting legal and political talks with Mr. Cranton (Chad"s father)when he visited your house.

I just recently ordered the first 4 seasons of Medical Center. My favorite is in the first season when you appeared in Care is not a cure. It's hard to believe that both you and Chad have been gone from us for so long, or that you still remain in our hearts and minds all this time. Miss your smiles on TV. It's been way over a year, but watch all the seasons of Medical Center again this past month or so. Also watched Chad in Moholland Drive the other night, a movie he was is not to long before his passing. Just reminds me just how much that talent of a man is missed by all. Happy Birthday Shelby and keep up all the good thoughts for us in heaven with Chad.

I didn't mention you Shelby when I signed your guest book. I remember you in some of MC episodes. And I remember how mischievous you both were when you got together. I remember how you loved each other. I hope you have moved on to another life and will make a connection with your husband of this life but in that life. I know you were Christians and I believe we go on to learn more lessons in other lives. Have fun!

Dearest Everett Family,
I wrote a message in March about the loss of Shelby & I find it extremely hard to find myself sending one for Chad. Some stars only entertain you but some take up a special place in your heart. That was what Chad & Shelby were to me. I loved their talent but their love for one another, family, friends & yes... I think even their fans made them unique. They never shied away from making contact with all of us. Very rare these days & times. The charity world will have a huge void from losing these two wonderful people. Both my parents are gone so I know the pain you're feeling. Wish I could go thru it for you to save you from the feelings you'll go thru. Cling to each other & help each other thru the rough spots. Holidays & birthdays are the hardest. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that theres lots of folks out here that hurt right along with you for the loss of Chad & Shelby. I take comfort in knowing they are together again & some day we'll all be there together as part of God's Family. You're all in my thoughts & prayers. (Here, There, or In The Air) !!! God Bless All Of You....

Dear Shannon and Katherine,
First of all let me say that I was so saddened last year of the passing of your mom AND was shocked when your dad's picture showed up on the SAG awards as one of the people we lost this last year.
Your mom and I were college friends from 1956-1964 or so. I have several pictures of your mom from college drama days. I am sure that most of your mom's info from college was lost in the house fire during the middle 60's. If you are interested in seeing the pictures, I will be glad to have them duplicated and sent to you.

I read of the passing of your father Chad Everett. I graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn Michigan and always heard about Chad Everett being a student there. I was so shocked to learn of the passing of your father, Chad. I was still processing the death of your mother, Shelby. I followed them both most of my life. I enjoyed Chad's series Medical Center completley and looked forward to seeing the episodes of him and your mother together.

It is not everyday you get to witness the existence of a real union, a true lasting bond and immense respect between two Hollywood Actors. What a team they were. What a Blessing they were for The Gift Of Life. What an example they are for the younger generation in the Industry.

May God Bless you both and your families as you come to terms with such a huge loss. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

With Deepest Sympathy,

I finally took time to watch the episodes of Medical Center with both Chad and Shelby sharing the screen together, and then the episode of Shelby in Marcus Welby episode, oh how young you both were back then. How you both stayed so attractive is a mystery to me. God blessed you with so much talent, good looks and a great loving family. I know you will be missed by all. Chad does have a Guest Book of his own if you just ask for it on the internet it will come up. But they were so connected, sharing this one also keeps them together in spirit and their families hearts. You both will be so missed, and I for one will always watch your old shows when ever I can. I was blessed when I was able to buy the entire seasons of both Medical Center and Marcus Welby. I actually have an extra one of Medical Center if anyone is interested. Contact me.

I was so shocked to learn the passing of your father, Chad Everett on Tuesday, July 24th. I know his passing will be mourned by many fans. I loved Medical Center and even had a small part in one of the episodes. He was so kind and thoughtful during the filming and I was so touched by that. Our scene was not a long one, but just being in his presence was a privilage. He was so handsome and I will never forget those amazing blue eyes.

I know you lost your mother in June 2011 and you were saddened by that, but just know that their love for one another was very obvious and they just could not take being apart. Find comfort in knowing they are together now for eternity and with no more pain.

I send my love and prayers to your family and please know you are also in my daily thoughts during this difficult time.

To Chad and Family:
I only found out about the lovely Shelby yesterday when I was on line. I am so shocked. I have been a Chad and Shelby fan since I was 12 years old. I am 55 now. I so admired the union that you two shared. It truly is an inspiring bond. I have watched your love story over and over these past few years and still she makes me stop and think about the importance of the battles we choose just by the comment she made about " what if the shoes weren't there anymore".............
I wanted to offer my condolences even though I never met her. I always wished I could have.

God Bless you and your family.

Dear Chad, Although I am just an old fan, I was shocked and numbed to learn of the loss of your dear wife Shelby. The two of you were a testimony to what marriage looks like when it is nourished with commitment and selflessness. I cannot imagine the grief you are bearing right now especially during this time of year. As the Lord puts you on my heart throughout the day and night (and He does often), I am praying for you to know His loving Presence with you even in your suffering. He is there.

Chad and family, I have just read of the lost of your beloved Shelby. I have followed your love story as I have enjoyed your acting throughout the years. I recently lost my husband, the love of my life for 35 years and I know how empty your holidays and heart is feeling right now. God bless you and may He ease you sorrow and loneliness that we both are aware of this holiday season.

Chad I think of you often since the death of your beautiful Shelby. Wondering how you are handling everyday life without your partner can be so hard. I mentioned before I lost my husband to cancer in 1983 just before Christmas and my daughter was only 12 at the time. It was so hard and I still cry somedays until I fall asleep. It is better as you will find out, but you never forget that part of you that made you whole. All my love and hugs to you to help through this time. I'm sending you a hug right now, can you feel it? Get all the hugs you can from all those loved ones around you, they help so much. Wish I could be there to talk about what I've learned through the years on handling this part of life, but I think you know. Keep busy and remember all your fans still love you and are there for you at anytime you need them.

Dear Chad,

I was shocked to read that your wife, Shelby, passed away in June. I am so sorry for your loss. I saw your Love Story from 2009 on the internet and thought it was lovely. I was especially moved by the simple but powerful story she told about your shoes. I hope that your immediate family and closes friends are surrounding you with all the love that you need to get through this terribly difficult time.

Peace and love from a faithful fan,

Dear Chad
I just happened to be surfing the internet and you-tube and hearing a couple of your songs dedicated to your wife when after watching an episode of Medical Center I somehow came upon the news of your wife's untimely death. To say I am stunned and shocked is an understatement! I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever post any condolence message but I could not let this opportunity go by without expressing to you and your family how deeply sorry I am of her passing. May she rest in peace and may the joyous memories you two shared for so many years comfort you in your grief and may the loving arms of God sustain you during this most difficult time.
On a personal note, if I may and please forgive me if I am out of line, but like many have said here in this guest book before me, I too am an avid fan of yours. To this day I credit you for being my inspiration and my mentor and the reason I am alive today for as a young girl I was convinced my life meant nothing and I would be dead by the time I was 20. Then I saw you and your show and even though I wasn't allowed to watch it the few episodes I got to watch were enough to keep me hanging on as you always demonstrated in each episode that if you believed you should fight for it and fight I did. I overcame my challenges with family, school and life in general through perseverence and belief in myself because that is what you taught me. You gave me hope where there was none and to this day it's my fervent wish that one day I can get to meet you and thank you personally for all you have done for me because even though you don't know me I am who I am today thanks to you.
God Bless you and your family and Shelby may you forever Rest In Peace.
