Joseph Derek Fisher

Santa Paula - On January 12th, 2021, at only 17, a heart which gave so much love to so many, would beat no more. Joseph Derek Fisher's story began on October 30th, 2003 in Santa Paula, California, where a young mother, Joanna Fisher, was ready to finally greet her son into the world. Meanwhile, his momma Pam (Pamela) Fisher, ready to become a mother once again, was ready to cut the umbilical cord.

Joey was immediately taken in by a large loving family. So many of which, though not being related by blood, took him in as their own and never looked back. He hit the ground running at an early age, while attending Haycox Elementary in Port Hueneme, playing baseball at Bubbling Springs park, Football for Southwind park and basketball at the Boys and Girls club. He finished elementary at Glenn City in Santa Paula, before graduating Middle School at Isbell. He then followed in his brother Andrew and Uncle Brian's footsteps and played football while attending Hueneme High School from grades 9-10, then moving back to Santa Paula, attending Vista Charter school.

He was always athletic, loved being outdoors, at the beach, playing sports of all kinds and camping. He enjoyed listening to music, and always appreciated the old school rock and roll and even Frank Sinatra. He was smart and proud of every single one of his accomplishments, no matter how small.

Joseph gave back wherever he could, always willing to give his time back to the community supporting those around him and the programs he enjoyed. Most of all, he loved his family and friends, he would always leave you with a smile when you talked to him and his smile would let you know you meant a lot to him. Though he may no longer be physically with us, Joey has left an impression on so many lives that cannot be shaken, and we know he will continue to live with us as we live on in his honor. His friends will continue to tell stories about remembering their friend "Fisher", "Fishy", "Joey", and Joseph.

Joey is preceded by his Grandma Olivia Mares and Grandpa James Fisher.

He is survived by his siblings Erin Murillo(Martin), Andrew Fisher, and Celeste Inouye and Matthew Inouye; his Grandparents Miguel (Irma) Mares and Betty Fisher; his Uncles Brian (Kassy)and Shawn "Mikey" Mares; Robert (Toby) Fisher and the Fisher Family. He also left behind his step mom Maria Alicia (Alice) Fisher of Santa Paula. He was an uncle of 4 who they will miss so very much. Kaylie Lopez, Sophie Molina, Malakai (Kai) Murillo and Jeramiah (Jem) Murillo. He also leaves many cousins, aunts and uncles. Craig and Pat Lamont of Santa Paula: Dan and Barbara Pindo of Oxnard. Also his Amanda and Jose Zavala of Arizona. Also to all the family in Texas who loved him and will miss him. Special thanks to the Gollena family who have accepted him into the family with open arms.

We all carry him in our hearts and will continue to live for him as he flies on high, because Joey's story has no end. His story lives on as long as we tell it, so let us never forget it. Always loving you from a far.

Due to COVID-19, visitation is limited capacity from 2:00pm to 6:30pm on Friday, February 5, 2021 with a Prayer Service to begin at 7:00pm at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel, 629 South A Street in Oxnard. If attending, please observe current COVID-19 regulations - masks must be worn, and social distancing guidelines will be observed.
