I remember being in a church play, The Music Man, in 1977, and there was a family involved in the production; a husband, a wife, and a daughter. The wife and daughter were members of the cast and the husband/father played drums in the very small "orchestra". This man was Joe Porcaro. Here was this world class musician, at the height of his career, giving up his nights and weekends for about two months, playing drums in the church play to be with his family. I remember thinking how extraordinary that seemed. He must have been a remarkable man. This is the thought that came back to me the very moment I heard of his passing. God bless you all.

As a fan of the Porcaro Brothers, I was thrilled to do some work at Joe's house way back around 1992, after Jeff passed. He was extremely friendly to me and invited me to come and jam sometime at a club in N.H. His genuine interest in people, and his warm personality was inspiring to say the least. A true gentleman. And what a great musician! The world lost a very good man. I consider myself lucky to have spent some time talking to him. He is one of my heroes.

Dear Porcaro Family,

Though your hearts are broken and we mourn with you, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time as you endure this time apart from your precious Mr. Joe. It is not a time to say "goodbye" to him, but rather "see you later".

As you reflect on the accomplishments of his illustrious career, you can be just as proud of him for the way he raised you. After watching numerous video interviews of Mr. Joe, it was crystal clear to me of how much he loved all of you and how proud he was of you guys.

His legacy will not only live on through his extensive body of work, but also through each one of you. After your tears subside, celebrate Mr. Joe's life and may we all be so blessed to leave such an indelible mark on the world.

With much love and respect,

Patrick

Never had the luck of knowing any Porcaro family members, but I read and listened to everything I could find. Jeff has been and still is my drum hero, and Joe as well. Been this close to be one of his students back in 1992. I know and feel they were special and exceptional human beings. God bless...prayers and sincere condolences from Italy. Enrico.

My deepest condolences on your loss of Joe. I used to hang every Saturday afternoon at Lepaks Drum Shop back in the late 1960's. Joe sold me my first drum set, and it set me on a lifetime career of the drumming business. He was a kind man, and fun to be around. May he rest in peace.

I have very fond memories of Joe from the early eighties when he taught at the Musicians Institute out in Los Angeles.

I couldn't afford to study there , but was still allowed to come into the school.

I remember being allowed to sit in on Joe's classes , a very nice person , and excellent teacher.

RIP joe ...

Thank you for your kindness.
