Hi Shira,

I don't know if you remember me, but we worked together on the CAJE College

Program several years ago. I was going through my email account the

university is closing and found an old email from you in my archives. I

googled your name, just out of curiosity, and found your Dad's obituary. I

remember he was ill when we were at CAJE in Fort Collins.

My dad passed away several years ago, and it is such a hard time to go

through. I hope your memories of him give your strength during this

difficult time. It is a slow process, but good memories are worth a lot.

May the new year bring strength and healing to your family.

Dear Suzanne,

I am very sorry to learn of your husband's death. I don't know whether we are related- my branch of the family is in Baltimore, and I learned from my sister that our grandfather's brother moved from there to Philadelphia- and this is certainly not the time to explore that. But whether we are or not, I wanted to express my condolences at your loss. I hope that you and your family will find comfort in your memories of him. Sincerely, Ellen Stutman

Dear Suzanne,

I am so sorry to learn of Ned's passing. So many years have gone by since our days in Philadelphia together, and our wonderful shabbat dinner at your home in Washingon when Jennifer and Shira were just toddlers. How I wish that we had kept in touch.

May Ned's memory be a blessing, and may his legacy inspire others.

With fondness,

Melanie Sherry Berman (formerly married to Ned's friend Michael)

We are deeply saddened to hear of Ned's passing. I had the privilege of working with him at the Justice Dept. in pursuit of protecting the rights of forgotten persons confined in institutions. He was a man of great intellect, compassion and wit. Ned also showed tremendous courage as he wrestled with his illness. The Stern family conveys its heartfelt sympathy to Suzanne, his three children and other family members.

Ned has been in my thoughts often in the last several months.

He was a great man as well as a warm and gentle presence.

His loss from the world is great, and I will miss him.

My sincere and deep condolences to Suzanne, Shira, Zach and Gabe.
